This is extremely premature, but if Sam Darnold and the Vikings play this well for the rest of the season, what will they do with JJ Mccarthy?

McCarthy will sit

Darnold's actually more talented than JJ anyway, it was always the mental aspect for him. If he got the mental together then Darnold's the QB. McCarthy's ceiling was always "steady system QB" IMO

Good point. Darnold wasn't cerebral but he's big, has a strong arm and is athletic enough for today's game. I wouldn't want to have to pay him much though.

Nah you don't franchise him, you'd be bidding against yourself. Other teams aren't dumb enough to poach him, this is the only situation he's been in as a competent QB. You give him what you think he's worth as an offer, somewhere hovering around sub ~20 M and he can take it or leave it
No QB that, if this pace continues, has a season like he's having is getting an offer starting sub $20M lol. The baseline would be $30M like Geno a few years ago. The Vikings could probably use the transition tag as opposed to the franchise tag and have Darnold's tag number around the mid $30M.

Sometimes I feel like people talk like D’Arnold isn’t younger than Burrow, Lamar, Josh Allen and them. Like he’s Stafford, Carr and those guys generation

Trade either one for picks in the next draft.

I'd push to keep darnold and resign him to a 5 yr 60 mil deal with about half guaranteed.

If they could get a first for JJ, they should do that if Darnold maintains this all season. It's not unheard of for QBs to finally "get it" later in their careers.

Baker found a home in Tampa. Geno found a home in Seattle. Goof found a home in Detroit.

You cant really do that. You're not gonna know how JJ recovers from surgery until damn near training camp.

Yall are speaking on what GMs have been doing vs what they SHOULD be doing. You can most definitely offer him that deal, if he walks, good. You are sabotaging the team paying him north of 30Ms. If any other team does I assure you they wont be good either. Pay these QBs what they are worth, not “market value”

They should franchise Darnold and see if there are takers

If not, have him prove it again

But McCarthy will sit

No he isn’t. I’m so sick of USC homers and dudes who don’t watch Michigan saying this nonsense. Your “opinion” is why you’re on here posting with me. System QB is a term people use who don’t know how to describe NFL systems.
