It would be much simpler if they followed a similar format to the NFL.

The 7th and 8th seeds don't make the playoffs, and the winners of each division take the top three spots in their conferences (determined by regular season record) with the 4-, 5-, and 6-seeds being the second place teams. First round is a best-of-three (or best-of-five). Top two teams in each conference automatically advance to the second round and get home court advantage.

Then we would never hear Lebron players talking about how the regular season doesn't matter and how they don't care about seeding.

It's still not good and the Cavs/Warriors would meet in the semis
The whole reason people want this is so the Cavs can't get away with treating the regular season as a joke. Cavs would definitely want to avoid playing Golden State before the Finals and vice versa so they'd be trying to get every win they can to avoid being 4th seed or lower. They know they can sleepwalk through the regular season because in the east it doesn't matter if they have homecourt or who they're seeded against. 1-16 and there's more threats to every team so seeding means a lot more.

fukk the Cavs factor though, I'd love it just to have more compelling matchups it could provide. For years where the 3 or 4 best teams are in the same conference I would love any format where those 3 or 4 teams could play in the second to last round instead of them being knocked out in the 1st and 2nd round due to playing in such a strong conference.

The Arsenal
so this HOU/SA 2nd round matchup would be a semifinal matchup to decide who plays the winner of GS/CLE in the finals? :camby:if either the rockets are spurs make it to the finals they should have to beat the warriors to get there.

this makes even less sense when the two best teams on paper are in different conferences. i guess you could say if this was the established system then CLE would have taken the regular season more seriously to make sure they were in the top 3 seeds.

time differences would be killer for players, can you imagine a Blazers/Heat first round matchup??

All that flying back and forth they'd be forgetting they even play basketball :mjlol:
