The problem is that both men and women compartmentalize people. Women date men who are toxic but don't commit to them(or stop committing to them when his angry outbursts stop being seen as him being passionate or his coldness stops being seen as him being mysterious)How many of these men would overlook the nice plain Jane for a prettier, more exciting girl who happens to be a stripper? Sounds like quite a few
Men(who can) date women whose looks are there but won't commit to them because they know they have problems that are too much to deal with. Those men put the strippers in the 'recreational use only' category.
The anger that a lot of men feel stems from the 'nerd-->ceo resentment pipeline' he was too serious and bookish then, but now that you're older and have experienced toxicity from men you found attractive, he's mature and intelligent. He was too soft then, but now he's emotionally available. His interests were immature and made him a loser then, but now that they're mainstream he's suddenly not corny. She was too good for him then, but now that she's realized that the guys she dated before aren't as exciting anymore she's willing to give him a chance. This naturally exhibits a "beat it chick" response in him. He's also angry because the plain Janes didn't want him either. Whilst women may have to deal with harassment and dishonesty from men, men have to deal with the loneliness of NOBODY wanting your lame ass, even the plain Jane is looking at the toxic man over you. Whether you think that's better or worse will depend on you and your own life experience. I think a lot of women believe they'd rather be completely invisible even to men they would find boring and ugly anyway than be harassed and I think a lot of men would rather deal with the abundance of attention and the staring and the unwanted compliments than to be used as meal tickets or otherwise being made to feel ugly and unwanted by all. Both think the grass is greener on the other side.
