North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Crazy how offensive players can’t literally hit defenders in the face mask and helmet, but if a defender does it, 15 yard personal foul penalty, automatic first down.

add the defenseless player penalty and these stiff arms aren’t as impressive as they use to be.

How does his numbers stack up against a similar runner, Steven Jackson?

Dudes repeat sportscaster hype like this guy is the best thing since sliced bread.

Steven Jackson's Best Year (2006)

346 Attempts
1528 Yards
4.4 YPC
13 TD
Longest Run - 59 Yards

2009 (Probably His Next Best Year)
324 Attempts
1416 yards
4 TD
Longest Run - 58 yards

Derrick Henry (2019)
303 Attemps
1540 Yards
5.1 YPC
16 TD
Longest Run - 74 yards

(2020)
321 Attempts
1679 yards
5.2 YPC
15 TD
Longest Run - 94 yards

Jackson has Henry beat in recieving but we don't even really try to use him like that. Henry is more capable of breaking a game open with his multiple 90+ yard runs over the year. He getting you halfway to the first down marker almost every run. He can completely take a game over which you dont normally see in a running back. Steven Jackson is probably the best comparison I've seen though. If Henry continues to string together seasons like this though, it won't even be close. Jackson had too many just ok seasons in between his best ones whether that was a result of incompetence on the Rams end, injuries, or whatever.

I also don't recall SJ tossing grown ass man like Henry does. I remember him being a bowling ball with pins/players bouncing off of him but not straight Flipping nikkas.

Thanks

Either the majority of the guys on the Henry bandwagon are very young or they just get caught up in the present moment. SJ had some classic stiffarm moments also. I think the plays called for Henry have him out in space where he can see the defender running towards him on an angle. If he's running between the tackles, less chance or need for a stiffarm.

He’ll run up against someone who’ll Christian Okoye/Steve Atwater him one day
Oh, it's coming. It might not be as clean as Atwater's hit, but it's just a matter of time.
Kam Chancellor got a semi clean shot at Steven Jackson before.

SJ had good balance, saw Kam and tried to run around him. Otherwise he would have gotten knocked back.

He definitely doesn't get talked about enough due to playing on those horrible Rams teams. And I can only hope the Titans push Henry enough to start to target him even at least half of what Jackson would get in the pass game. Though with what Henry does in the run game with his long runs, I'm not sure it's needed. Plus, these days, it's all about that "spell" back to come in and catch a few screen passes and go on about their business.

Going back to watch some Jackson, he was out in space quite a bit himself. I think his thing though was to more so try to Marshall Faulk (his mentor of course) it and slip away from people and then if they happen to get to close, let em just bounce off of him. I do remember him stiff arming the shyt outside of somebody though where they just collapsed straight to the ground.

Another good post. SJ had the speed and balance to shift, juke, and outrun defenders. Smart running style because no matter how strong and muscular you are........a running back can only take so many hits.

I started paying more attention to balance and agility of running backs in the Beastmode era.

Yeah it's coming. I haven't played since semi-pro days, and I have that itch. These competitive, professionals are looking to the chance.

One of these big safeties or LBs going to bring him down to earth at the latest next season...early. And he's not going be the same again lol.
