Love the Claremont stuff. That's my X-Men era right there. I agree tho, they should have left Jean dead.

Oh yeah, it's absolutely the GOAT X-men era, and arguably the GOAT era of any team superhero comic. I think I would have a lot more love for the latter portion of the run if they had just left Jean dead and let Cyclops retire in peace, because there IS good stuff in there.

The clone saga in the 90s ruined Spider-Man for me. He's never been the same for me ever since. Even though I've never been a fan of teen heroes I loved Ultimate Spider-Man initially because they took him back to his roots but when they started incorporating 616 universe stuff into the Ultimate universe I was done again.

Batman after Morrison's run. Batman is my favorite superhero of all time but making able to defeat the Justice League was it for me. That prep time nonsense was it.

X-Men post E. For Extinction. This to me was the last time the X-Men felt like X-Men. After that they went to those ugly leather outfits and the sudden explosion of the mutant population. I had stopped reading comics regularly for a LONG time and have been catching up through trades and reading Wikipedia. They lost me again after Avengers vs X-Men in 2012.

Gotham after season 2. It got too campy for me and the fact that they were having all of Batman's enemies show up while Bruce is still a kid was it for me.

Batman fans made me stop reading batman.

I tried again a few months ago and saw him beating superman with some kryptonite gum he was chewing on.

:hubie: no thank you.

This is the thing that ruined Batman. He used to be great when he was just a lowdown, grimey, mysterious dude that was ready to throw hands with anyone. The problem is that the writers started turning him into this invincible, all-powerful, ridiculous character that always wins, always gets the girl, and is always right, just because he's popular with us. They started dumbing all of the other characters down just to make him look better because he's popular with us. Just because he's ready to throw hands with anyone, they have to have him winning fights against celestials and god-level beings since he's popular with us. These new writers that grew up in love with the characters took over the books and started making all of their personal favorites invincible and dumping all over anyone THEY personally didn't like. Good storytelling took a back seat to fanservice. It's the same deal that ruined Wolverine, IMO.

The New 52 kept me out of comics in general for years. I didn't start reading again until Rebirth was announced.

this too, as far as DC is concerned.

Me, I'm a stickler for continuity. Good or bad stories.

They really threw all that history away, just to try and fit their characters for future TV/Movie releases.

Them AND Marvel learning the hard way:

People who are fans of your books will go see the movies/watch TV.

That doesn't mean people who think the movies/TV shows are cool are going to go buy your books.

100%. When they go into the comic store they are buying graphic novels and collections.

No one is actually going to keep up with a story that releases monthly or bi-weekly. Especially when 3 issues equals the price of the movie and has a lowered quality in every aspect.

You think Marvel would notice the correlation between their sales staying the same during the months a movie is about to be released and after its out.

Only thing DC has done is let that Supergirl show influence the book. Not like she was doing anything before that anyway.

what kills me are all the characters that we'll never see again. they arent gonna bring back empress, or son of vulcan, so thats a wrap for them. and to make things easier for new non existent readers?
