Shaq got swept mad times. Stop romanticizing past players.

Embiid is not in a good team situation and is an underdog in this series I don’t know what y’all expect.
:mjtf:

I only mentioned Shaq because EMBIID MENTIONED SHAQ, and was making excuses about why he can’t get off since it’s not 1998. I literally didn’t say one thing praising Shaq in my post.

Should I make another thread so we can argue about the defensive player shaq was during the the lakers 3 peat or no? I got time

if you’re younger than 25 years old, sit this one out
Pick n roll defense may be one thing but #3 in blocks with 3.5 bpg in ya rookie year.. I think makes you an elite rim protector.. that’s just me tho

3rd in blocks in the MVP season too

That's not his point...he's saying modern bigs have to stretch the floor and play with more finesse than the old school bangers...people criticize him for taking jump shots without understanding the game is reff different

They don’t have to do anything, if that’s what Brett Brown is telling him to do ok, but you can still play in the post if you perfect the art.

the “you can’t play in the post cuz you can’t elbow ppl” quote is BS because 60s big men played in the post effectively and in the 60s I COULD NOT get in your pathway or initiate contact with you in the post as the offensive player.

schemes are different because it’s a copy cat league but the same way Melo and Leonard can still effectively use the mid range despite the rest of the league not using it , a big man can, use hook shots, fade-aways,drop steps, shoulder fakes and play make out the post if they work on the skill set.

Hakeem cooked stronger players with finesse, skill and savvy..
you don’t necessarily have to be a “banger” to dominate in the post

as far as officiating goes, the game.. like most things goes in cycles

1.You're comparing modern basketball to pre-merger NBA... Thats a non starter right there my guy like what are you even talking about?

2. Hakeem didn't play in a league that allowed zone defense... I suggest going to do some research on that before offering commentary on this topic my dude...you can start here

yea ima end this here cuz you being a smart ass and I wasn’t even coming at you like that.

my point was the game has been officiated tightly AGAINST offensive players in the post before, it isn’t new and it doesn’t create a scenario where you can’t score in the post because of it.

Duncan, Dirk, KG all played in a post-zone era and we’re effective in the post

Edit: my dumbass going back and forth with somebody -300 in the red :skip:

My brother's keeper
It's never his fault.
They get him the ball only for him to get doubled into a turnover and it's they didn't get him the ball fast enough
Ben out and they center the whole offense around him and shooters on the perimeter and it becomes the shooters ain't good enough
I'm sure the body language and fatigue issues somebody else fault too
:francis:
Meh 26% from 3...the shooters ain't good enough :manny:.

Felt like he could score 40 this series and the result would be the same

Philly bouls, Trust the Process
Joel's right. He's easily the best post player in the league, and when you consider that he's a master at drawing fouls and good at making them there's another layer of danger there that Shaq never had(not saying he's Shaq-tier offensively).

Even with the soft as rules dude is completely unguardable 1-on-1, but they're able to throw doubles at him and do things to deter him in ways they couldn't with Shaq. Breh also has to operate with negative floor spacing.

Only in baseball and football are you allowed to say the game is legislated differently than in the past. In the NBA you cant.

Joel, for as right as he is, wont win this argument.

Embiid is actually right. Alot of Shaqs early game was bully ball. You cant do that shyt no more. The leagues rules are catered to smaller players and spacing. Shaqs rookie year was almost 30 years ago. Alot has changed
