theres a few reasons i thought of but the main thing to remember for all of these is trying to kill a former president is extremely reckless to begin with. so someone who tries to do it is probably motivated by reasons that dont make complete sense.
1. hes some kind of conservative who is anti-trump and thinks trumps death would improve the party. maybe he thinks trump wont win but another republican candidate would.
2. he cares about a specific issue that he feels like trump has betrayed him on. this would probably be abortion because trump recently announced his position that states should decide whether its legal, so if he is extremely pro-life maybe he thinks trump is sacrificing a bunch of unborn babies
3. like others have theorized he saw the news about the trump epstein case and thought trump is a pedo
4. he is actually just an insane person who wanted to shoot a very famous person with no real policy motive
