The article wasn't suggesting that it's a legitimate way to appeal to Black voters but rather saying that it would be ineffective, inappropriate, and insulting to attempt to align oneself with Black voters in such a simple and shallow way. It states that if Trump sincerely cared about Black voters, he would use this opportunity to offer meaningful policy aimed at addressing gun violence rather than pandering with superficial gestures like this. The article concludes that he is unlikely to offer comprehensive policy.The problem is that he hasn’t tried to do that yet. So the fact that they DID suggest it, is just as problematic.
No, but it will supercharge turnout for GOP voters. As we learned in 2020, turnout is everything.

People made up their minds about who they voting for years ago. Sure this can swing a couple of votes here and there but I don't see how this changes anything drastically. Trump was a president already and we know he's terrible at his job, he is not a new candidate. So please someone enlighten me on how this changes anything come Nov?
Because he could spin this on the deep state out to get him, and you can certainly make the case he's right. They tried w/ Russiagate which failed, then the Stormy Daniels case which flopped, and now a failed assassination attempt. Regardless of how you feel about Trump, it's obvious there's an agenda against him, and regular Americans(people who don't watch MSNBC; CNN, ABC News, CBS News) don't like that agenda. While Trump's presidency was more or less the same than prior presidents since Reagan, his persona is "us vs them", and people gravitate to that.
