An aging Dwight still gave you Al's production...and as a physically imposing C will be better suited for physical playoff basketball than Al who did play soft and finesse against bigger front lines. We've seen the best of Teague not sure why you'd be so attached to him to think it wasn't time to move on or at least give Dennis a shot. As for the rookies, Prince is DMC 2.0 and we'll see what we get from Bembry, but I don't think they'll have to be 10X better to be as good as last yr. this team will win fewer games but can go deeper in the playoffs with this squad...there is a physicality and competitiveness that this squad has that last year's did not
No the fukk he didn't. His effectiveness was awful, Win shares was bad, he was ineffective close to the basket when it wasn't dunks or alleys, defensively, he couldn't move all that well and offensively he was completely ineffective in the last 5 minutes of games.

He was average af last year and has been completely overpaid with hopes Atlanta can get him back on track in a better system with personnel that fits his strengths which is cutting, PnR as his back to the basket game is trash, paint defense and rim protection as he's barely as good these days at blocking shots as Sap and Al. I am not going to drink the Kool Aid. He needs to prove he doesn't suck anymore for me to be impressed. Youtube clips don't mean shyt to me. I watch the games.

My thing was Teague and Dennis was one of the best combos in the NBA. That was hell on opposite defenses. That's a big lost. Prince is a rookie in our system, I am not going to expect much. I am still unimpressed with our 2-3 options. We needed to improve and we didn't

I always hated this stupid logic, it don't work, blow it up to something even more stupid. Let's get an aging Dwight Howard, lost a top 10-15 PG and add a couple rookies, yeah improvement. That's bullshyt. Dwight and Dennis has to be 10 times better just to be as good as last year.

Good Lord :dwillhuh:

Breh, even the marginal numbers Dwight put up last year would be an improvement over what Horford gave us :dwillhuh:

There's a reason you seeing all the players and Coach Bud talk about how good it is to have a physical presence down in the post now. So you saying they're lying and don't know what they talking about? :dwillhuh:

Like what, every advanced category, Horford is a superior player. Every one but rebounding.

The whole Atlanta Hawks organization turns to shyt when they play Lebron if you wanna be real:yeshrug:

Breh the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. I'm not gonna shyt on Al b/c he was a good guy who did alotta things well, but playing physical in the playoffs was not one of those things. Teague played like he could care less half the time...it was time to move on

Great move letting Teague move and give the keys to Schroeder,i been wanting to see what the german can do as a starter...You maxed out your ceiling with teague so it was a no brainer to me...If you aint going forward you going backwards so might as well see what Dennis can do with it...

Honestly it reminds me of when the raptors let Jose Calderon walk and gave the keys to Kyle Lowry...

Main reason we brought Dwight in was defense & rebounding. If he's at best the equal of Al with his movement and activity on defense and clearly better than him rebounding the ball, I can live with some of what we're losing offensively. Bud has already talked about how we're gonna have to change how we play (i.e. No more small ball), but I'm ok with that b/c Dwight pulling down more boards makes him more effective for what we need come playoff time. We don't need our C shooting threes and getting one rebound in a playoff game anymore

Last year, with Horford rebounding 18.1 percent of opponents' available misses (below average for a power forward, let alone a center), the Hawks' 74.6 percent defensive rebounding ranked 25th in the league. Howard pulled down a robust 29.1 percent of opponents' misses and hasn't been below 27.4 percent since his rookie season.

As for Teague, he's a solid to good PG. Not elite, doesn't want to be elite. Sometimes he's a competitior sometimes he's not, not to mention he was coming up on his final year and Dennis was coming up on his final year. From an organizational perspective it made no sense to bring both back when you still don't know what you have in Dennis as a starter and Teague on an expiring. We got a lotto pick for a player who had reached his peak 2 years ago...I'm cool with moving on and seeing what we got in Dennis

First round exit & not because of Dwight either :francis:

Depends how long it takes this team to gel...outside of CLE & maybe Indy there's nobody in the East I'd be worried about us playing in a 7 game series. We're a 6-8 seed with the ability to go further in the playoffs than we did last yr provided we stay healthy

Splitter continues to progress, other injury updates
0
8:05 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 Atlanta Hawks

After three days of training camp work at the University of Georgia, the Hawks will not hold a formal workout on Friday. They will return to the court on Saturday as part of the free open workout and scrimmage at Philips Arena.

With the exception of Dennis Schroder, the Hawks came out of the first workouts healthy. As previously reported, the Hawks held Schroder out of practice on Thursday with an ankle injury. He will monitored and re-evaluated after a few days.

As for updates of the three players coming back from surgeries:

* Tiago Splitter has been an active participant in workouts after hip surgery ended last season for the center. “I think we feel good about Tiago’s three days of work, how much he was able to get in and how he played when he was in,” coach Mike Budenholzer said. “We tried to keep him more in scrimmage and competitive type environment. I think the whole team marvels what Tiago is doing coming off his surgery and off his injury.”

* Jarrett Jack is being brought along slowly from a torn ACL that ended his last season. The guard competed in most of the non-contact drills on the first day of training camp and Budenholzer said he did “a little bit less” the last two days.

* Paul Millsap had a non-surgical procedure on his right knee recently and will be sidelined for the first three weeks. The forward continues to be “very, very limited” which means his on-court work consists of free-throw shooting.

I'm hearing that this is probably the most competitive training camp we've had since Bud has been here :leon:

G Will Bynum is looking for a spot
F Ryan Kelly (formerly of the Lakers) is looking for a spot
G Malcolm Delaney (probably will open the season as the backup PG)

Atlanta Hawks land atop Southeast Division in preseason ESPN power rankings

Some preseason respect from the worldwide leader.

The good people of Las Vegas anointed the Atlanta Hawks as the team to beat in Southeast Division (by proxy) in setting the team’s over/under higher than any other squad among the quintet. While that proclamation may seem a touch off the mark to some (myself included), ESPN’s Marc Stein echoes that sentiment in his preseason NBA power rankings.

Stein is a veteran of the power rankings games, taking the responsibility for ESPN for many years, and he pegs Atlanta at No. 12 overall:

We're all on the same quest in the East. We're all on the lookout for a team or two that can legitimately prevent a third successive Cleveland trip to the Finals that again looks like such an inevitability. Nominating the Hawks to do just that means you think Dwight Howard and a promoted Dennis Schroder can give Atlanta more than Al Horford and Jeff Teague did. We're trying to talk ourselves into it.

In addition to having relative positive thoughts about the Hawks, Stein is also quite low on the rest of the division. The Charlotte Hornets come in next at No. 17 overall, with the Wizards (No. 19), Heat (No. 20) and Magic (No. 23) in succession.

As for the Atlanta-centric part of things, it is certainly true that NBA pundits are searching for a team to challenge Cleveland, and the changes made to the Hawks roster could (in theory) create a more favorable match-up if everything goes to according to plan. Still, the regular season product could take a step back and it is hard to disagree with Stein in placing the Celtics and Raptors ahead of Mike Budenholzer’s team.

The Pacers at No. 11, though? That we can debate.

We probably are the best team in the division when you think about it :ohhh:

I might have to adjust my prediction to top 4 now :jbhmm:
