It’s like young Black men with extraordinary promise in the NBA are sacrificed at the altar of Jordan’s legacy, the knife is expectations and sports media is the executioner.

Rather than letting these players organically create their own legacies they have to be set to a ridiculous standard that both alienates younger fans from Jordan because their era of superstars are constantly delegitimized and alienates the older fans because they aren’t given a chance to actually move on from that era.

I know they’ve already begun, but I really hope they leave Ant alone and let him be himself. In general, they need to quit comparing young players to Jordan. End rant.
The nba and sports discourse trying to recapture than era like a crackhead getting their first high…

Instead of embracing the new generation of talent and ability they always want to bring it back to MJ… like wtf… players today are way more athletic and skilled than in the Jordan era… I’m literally from the late 80s and all of the 90s Jordan era..

The skill today is way better

Respectfully this is soft as fukk.

There isn’t one ball player that came along, including Jordan, that didn’t get that wooden spoon to the knuckles when they didn’t perform

That’s not what I mean. If a player doesn’t play up to their level as a rising potential superstar then they should be called out.

I’m just talking about heaping ridiculous expectations before nikkaz even do shyt. It’s lowkey annoying at this point they need to let Jordan breathe. @BigMoneyGrip got it right it’s like they chasing the dragon after the first hit of dope they need to move the fukk on :russ:

Now if a player comes along that actually does warrant the comparison then sure have at it. But every single young up and coming superstar has to be slapped with this Jordan shyt and it minimizes what they do.

You tell me where on earth does this Eutopia exist?

Other sports?
Arts?
Hollywood?
Politics?

Everyone gets compared to something or someone

I think you’re trying to escape the cycle of life or something. We have standards…hell isn’t that the embodiment of religion? We are always in search of someone to exalt

It’s inescapable

Once again someone direct me to an NBA campaign where Ant is being compared to Michael Jordan?

I feel like Kobe and LeBron’s careers were never truly appreciated because talking heads spent all of their time comparing them to MJ. I hope this does not happen with the next gen. These old heads need to cast off to an island or something

You ain't never fukking lied man.

Him being marketed this way has made him have the hottest nba related sneaker right now

Him being marketed this way has his sports memorabilia on fire

Him being marketed this way has swept two fukkery filled incidents he’s had this year under the rug

All this equals more money and fame for him .

If you want players to not be marketed this way all these “fan of the league” and “____ Stan” ass nikkas need to stop falling for the marketing and enabling it

The NFL,NHL and MLB markets their brand and fans for the most part ride with their squads no matter what ..so they don’t have to do what the NBA does because their customer base isn’t made of up a huge amount of dikkriders of individuals and the best way to market to them is to put them up against the ghost of a player to chase .

Jordan was able to take what Magic and Bird did and push it forward ,Kobe and Bron took the mantle from Jordan and kept the league moving ..They think Ant can be the next one ..

Ever since Jordan, these guys want to stamp the next MJ.
They're putting these labels on these cats at the age of 22.

All the traits people associate with Jordan at the end of his career was Jordan at the end of his career, not his 4th year in the league.

Then this guy saying he's better than Jordan because he can shoot the 3.

Chill.

These cats need to focus on being the next Khris Middleton or RichardHamilton first.
Win that first ring before you acknowledge comparisons to someone who won their 6th.
If you fall short they're only going to throw it back in your face and pressure starts to build when you're 27/28 and ringless.

Of course some Bron stan whining would be interjected :skip:
MJ is considered the GOAT because nuance is added to things
not just blurting out MOST RINGS! MOST POINTS!
Unless you're trying to debate Bill's 15ppg > MJ :francis:
Since you believe in context, when comparing Russell's GOAT credentials, how do you contextualize him being the greatest defensive player of all time?

Do you contextualize that in an era where defense was more potent than offense, he engineered some defenses so great that today, even 55 years post-retirement, those defenses stand up as All-Time dominant?

Do you contextualize that Russell didn't score more because he didn't have to on a team that often had multiple All-Star level scorers?

Do you contextualize his big scoring games in the playoffs?

What about his other skills as maybe the originator of the outlet pass and a dominant offensive threat in transition as a result?

There's not a single player in NBA history that won more championships as a #1, how do you contextualize that? What about him outplayed his opposing center matches in big spots?

Nuance is needed for everything, so I need you to explain how that nuance works with Bill in comparison to Mike, given he was a significantly superior defender, also has many big moments in money time, has more rings total and more rings as a #1 than Mike, innovated aspects of both offense and defense, does all the nuance get lost when talking about Russell?

You nikkas don't believe in context or nuance because no matter what anyone else has done, there's ALWAYS an excuse as to why someone else isn't as great as Mike...

You nikkas not low at all...

They expect young players barely into their 20s to surpass 2- three peats era MJ. (1991-1998)

Insanity.

Jordan was in his 30s back then and it took many seasons in his 20s (during the 1980s decade) to reach his elite and final 1990s form.

Ant is not the next  and will never be

Just let him be him.

Hockey media/people are not searching for the next Wayne Gretzky. Football media/fans are not looking for the next Brady. Baseball media/fans ain’t waiting for the next Barry Bonds. And soccer media/fans aren’t calling any new star the next Pelé or Maradona.

I don’t recall one campaign declaring the kid the next anything. Keep in mind all of this is a far cry from when scouts wondered was he serious about basketball

All of this Michael Jordan shyt comes from YOUNG fans, resemblance, media etc..but The NBA isn’t making anybody say or do shyt

It’s from all of y’all

Jordan is barely on camera & the shoes aren’t being advertised to the degree it was

Don’t be frustrated & angry that he’s the Michael Jackson of basketball and your man’s (not talking about Ant) will never be the first thing people think of when basketball is the topic

Ant will be fine. What are y’all crying for? :why:
Yeah I agree it's a lot more fan driven, I agree the media is a bit culpable, but the NBA themselves isn't saying or doing anything. We as fans like to hot shot shyt but that's not really how it works, this shyt has never been an overnight thing. This is his first long playoff run of his career, let him go through his growing pains first. Pump the brakes on trying to put something on somebody they aren't, and to his credit he's tried to shy away from the comparisons. Let it all play out.

They've been doing this for decades in soccer. New Pele and then it was and/or new Maradona especially if the player was left footed and under 5'10. Then Messi and Cristiano came onto the scene and now its them who get whose the next one of them. Youtube has really kicked things to a another level with the next moniker. Theres videos titled like The Azerbaijani Messi and the kid is like pre teen.

RIP Christian Atsu , The Ghanaian Messi :wow:
