I really didn't participate in that era..it wasn't for me. Maybe because I always wore the "proper" club attire before it became cool. But I did have a bunch of throwbacks and jerseys. No shame either and I still have some that I rock from time to time

On principle, I avoided clubs that had dress codes. You could go a couple blocks down the street to a club frequented by a predominantly white clientele and see a bunch of Biffs and Beckies wearing all manner of clothing that was anything but business casual - baseball caps, t-shirts, jeans, sneakers, etc.

Those signs that sat next to a club’s entrance and read:

NO HATS

NO JEANS

NO SNEAKERS

NO WINTER BOOTS (Timberlands)

NO PANTS THAT ARE SAGGING

NO LABELS ON YOUR CLOTHING

NO JEWELRY WORN OUTSIDE OF YOUR SHIRT

always struck me as :mjpls:

You mean the no :mjpls:dress code? Thats nothing to celebrate. A lot of those clubs were openly discriminating and still do which is why i never cared to go clubbing. Not my thing anyway as i usually look out of place. As a kid growing up, my idea of the club in my head was that they had metal detectors because the known ones that i heard about in the 90s were getting shot up. So that dress code shyt is so bullshyt

It doesn't look too bad. We just thought wearing un tucked button ups that were designed to be tucked was the style.

I came from the era where we could wear ANYTHING

Dress codes in the club :hhh:

What years are you talking? :patrice:.

Because I think this may have been more of a Bmore thing because DC clubs had dress codes in my day and I'm a few years older than you.
