The only thing I could think of was Dr.Gero mutated those cells to be regenerated on a celluar level once he got piccolo's regenerative abilities... it was childs play...

Remember Cell has Frieza's DNA.... so Cell was able to live through any horrific injury. So I'm assuming since Cell didn't die from that Warp Kamehameha his regeneration ability was still able to work.

Even Dr. Gero said he has no knowledge of the Namek Battles and he was unaware of the super saiyan abilities or ever going to namek & meeting frieza..

He didn't have to follow them to Namek.... Frieza came to Earth that's when Trunks killed him. in the process Dr.Gero was able to collect Frieza and King Cold's DNA for Cell. That's why when Cell first showed up sucking up all those people Piccolo was like "Why do I feel Frieza's power level?!"

Also you have to remember that there were three Cells. The Cell that became perfect that they are fighting came from a timeline where he had everyone's dna but 16 and 17 was killed which is why he took that version of Trunk's time machine to come to this timeline to absorb 16 and 17 to become perfect.

Cell is mainly made of Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Frieza's DNA.
