I gotta give props to Team Four Star for actually giving more backstory to 16, 17 and 18 than the actual show did. First revealing 17 and 18's actual first names earlier in the season and 16's true origins in this episode

Probably because everything after the Frieza saga was being made up as they went along. I remember reading somewhere that once the decision to keep Dragon Ball Z going after the original intent of Frieza dying being the overall ending of the series that Dr. Gero and Android 19 were to be originally the main villains of the Android Saga hence why 16, 17 and 18 really didn't have any back story in the original series.speaking of 16 I had gone back to look yesterday and realized that wasn't even part of the original
I think it was a couple of years ago that Toriyama released some intetesting backstory on some things one of those things being 17 & 18's real names and 16 being designed after Gero's son. Team Four Star read that information as well and thankfully incorporated in the abridged series.
