But bulma knew good and well about gero and they found gero BEFORE the androids. They definitely could have killed him earlier.

You must not have watched in a while.

Dr. Gero is Android 20. The first time the Z-fighters (in main timeline) ran into the Androids, it was him and Android 19 destroying a town. As soon as they ran into the Androids, Goku starting succumbing to his heart virus and Vegeta fought 19. After 19 got killed, Dr. Gero started running to his lab, and he ran on foot so they couldn't track him. They were trying to catch him before he made it back to activate 17/18 but they couldn't.

So they never really had a good chance to kill Gero, they tried but he dipped as soon as the other Android got killed. And anyway, killing him too early wouldn't have helped Trunks, since Trunks would've wanted to make Gero tell him how to deactivate the Androids.

Edit: Plus Vegeta was on one of his ego trips and he wanted to fight 17 and 18, so he didn't want to kill Gero that soon

:WHAT!: Trunks didn't know where Gero's lab was. Androids popped out when he was a child. It wouldn't have changed his timeline anyway as it was already permanently fukked.

like dude up there said, he also needed to find a way to kill the androids in his timeline, otherwise it'd all be a waste. Note that Cell timeline Trunks found some blueprints to kill the androids or some shyt and that's why first form Cell killed him easily, cause he hadn't trained.

It also wouldn't matter if they found Gero and killed him as Cell had already travelled back two years before Trunks arrives in the main timeline, where he kills Frieza instead of Goku. He was stronger than most of them pre-hyperbolic time chamber training.

There was a ton of shyt different in Trunks's future from the past. Trunks only knew of 2 androids when in actuality there were 5 (#16-20). And Cell never existed in Trunks's future, that was also unforeseen. That's why he was so spooked when shyt wound up different.
