The ambiguity of what place in time they are is the point, imo. I feel it shows generations and how poverty and being in the underclass can not move and transcends time.

Also the section where Yo-Yo and her prostitute friend were pretending to blow/Jack off the guys in the cars whilst secretly communicating, was a nod to negro spirituals being sang in the fields to secretly get messages across. That way, the overseers didn’t get suspicious.

Or maybe I’m reading too much into that scene?

That or just how spies share information with each other by doing regular and mundane things.

This was a good watch. Juel Taylor does a great job mixing the mystery, suspense and sci fi elements. Boyega, Foxx and Parris have great chemistry together.
