North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
If you trade a superstar franchise player, the only way you can replace him is with another superstar franchise player and the ONLY way you do that is by trading for another one or Drafting another one. The only way to draft another one is to suck. Orlando made sure they would suck enough to be in the lottery. Sure they could've made the trade with NJ and ended up being a 37 win team, but what would it have gotten them in the end? Mangagement aint even trying to hide their tank job aspirations by saying they want to do what OKC did. OKC had to suck to build their team through the draft, and suck for multiple years.

Charlotte has never had great enough players though. Me personally, I think the draft lottery is rigged. Unless they do it like the regulary lottery and show the ping pong balls poppin up I will always think that way.

greg oden went first

blazers fans :umad:

if the Sonics had the first pick, they would have undoubtedly picked Oden too. getting #2 saved them from themselves (but nothing could save them from Stern and those demonic hicks in Oklahoma :damn:).

you know what the "OKC model" is? freak luck.

I feel you. That's why I felt the Nuggets made a mistake in that Melo trade. They got enough decent players back to still be a pretty good team. That means a whole lot of 1st round exits but no lottery.

Even though we know the NBA Draft Lottery doesn't really exist anyway. :scheme:

At the top.
Cosign this. OKC is lucky their picks have worked out - Durant, Westbrook and Harden have been amazing. I can't remember the last team to get that many good pick ups in back to back drafts.

the Nuggets are one of the youngest teams in the league that just went through an entire destroy and rebuild (only Ty Lawson remains from the Melo era).

they're stacked at every position and have multiple trade assets, assets that can you can flip for an Olympian and All-Star:

the Nuggets may not be contenders this year, but their window is wide open with only one of their key pieces just entering their prime (Iggy). Masai could either stand pat and let the young dudes develop or make another Iggy-like trade to bring in the final peice. either way, Denver is in great position.

Masai "The Pride of Africa" Ujiri is setting the blueprint. beleedatplayboi :birdman:

Other than one year it was nothing but first round exits for them anyway

Orlando is stupid and the plan will most likely not work....

It's like betting the house on a dice game.

It's not that easy though. Sucking doesn't guarantee you a top pick due to the lottery system and there's also no guarantee your top tier prospects will pan out.

I personally think that stacking up assets and moving them for bigger pieces is the best way to build a franchise. Sure, OKC became contenders by drafting well and having the luck to finish 2nd in a lottery in which they were "left" with Durant. Imagine if they won the lottery and picked Oden, it changes the whole franchise basically.

I do understand what Orlando tried to do BUT they failed badly when they didn't even recieve valuable assets for Howard. They should've tried to get young players with potential and alot of picks for him but they ended up with just picks.

The reported Houston offer would've netted them two of their rookies + picks. That's a much better start than what they recieved. Afflalo is a pointless asset for how that team is looking.
