Many non AA Black folks dislike being called "Black" because in their minds "Black" in America = African-American, they will still call themselves Black when around their own folks or when they go back home so it has more to do with distancing themselves from African-Americans than it does self-hatred...although there are exceptions (as is often the case with Dominicans) Personally I just say "I'm Black" and if people want to inquire further I tell them my parents are from Guatemala, I can't get down with the whole afro-latino, Black-hispanic, and all the other hyphenated terms.
I don't like those terms either. No reason to add the Afro to everyone when those people have no connection to Africa. They are just American.

And as for the term Afro Latino, it doesn't exist in this country. If you are a Black Latino, you're just Black. You can't be both

not really understanding what your saying i think i sort of get it. I think your saying that people from the Caribbean (cuban, puerto rican, dominican, jamaican, Haitian) are denying being a black american b/c they dont identify themselves as black americans.

I dont think they're denying that they come from african ancenstry and have some african blood or dna or how ever you wanna say that. I just think they repping what they are. You can't expect them to say something they not. The fact is that they aren't black americans. They are whatever they are (hondurian, haitian, jamaican, dominican, puerto rican, cuban or w/e) that's what they are. Those are their roots.

when yall saying that they're denying they're blackness b/c they are not identifying themselves as black in america. Which is basically being african american. they feel like your telling them "hey, you. You are BLACK, Stop saying your (hondurian, haitian, jamaican, dominican, puerto rican, cuban or w/e) if you say your not black, you are denying your blackness. that's not how it goes.

and honestly that doesn't make any sense. saying that your not black, doesn't mean that your denying your african ancestry or blood or the black in you or how ever yall wanna say that. It just means that you are what you are.

perfect examples

those baseball players that come from the dominican republic (david ortiz, alfonso soriano, jose reyes) they're not black, they're not african americans, they're dominican. you can look at them and see they have african ancestry or blood or w/e u call it. But because they are saying they're dominican and not black. It doesn't mean they are denying they're african roots or w/e. It just means that they identify themselves as dominicans.

i hope i helped clear some stuff up, if that's how yall thought of it. Or if yall can tell me how yall look at it, or if this makes sense to you.

Idk what all this shyt is you just typed but blacks from different countries don't want to be labeled as Black Americans because of the stigmas and stereotypes associated with them.

To put in in simple terms, it's like calling any Hispanic person a "Mexican." Black Americans is like lowest on the totem pole in terms of social class and culture.

Yes denying that your black is denying your African ancestry because the word black in itself points to nothing but African ancestry. Why? because black isn't "black American" it is "negroid."

It's not my fault that you guys are being stupid and refusing to accept the facts.

I swear for people like you guys who identify with another nation you sure do give Americans unnecessary credit. :stopitslime:

While I've never met an Dominican I've heard for years they are a very self loathing/hating whitewashed negros...How accurate that discriptions is for the people as a whole i'm not sure but I take any project done/nnarrated by Dr. Louis "Toby" Gates with a grain of salt due to him being a a tool and mouthpiece of his Eurcentric employers...If that wasn't enough the doc lost all credbility to me me after Louis tried to imply the group of Afro Brazlians he interveiwed were ashamed of their African roots even after they repeating stated they were black after being asked about their race...Louis is a house negro whom proudly claims to be more European than black. himself:That Uncle Tom bytch nikka is the last one that needs to be calling people out about a slave mentality.

Very true. He's a Eurocentric fakkit and a liar.

I'm Jamaican and I've never heard of a Jamaican saying they weren't black or not identifying as black. Jamaica is a black country.

i think there is a kind of miscommunication here, some people from the caribean do try to separate themselves from african americans, i think some people interpret that as saying they are not black

so its not exactly a contradiction if you calibrate for the different vocab, Jamaicans or other Caribbeans can consider themselves black AND not consider themselves african americans

The most hilarious thing to me is that the first person who responded to this thread actually had the nerve in another thread to refer to AROD being a sell out to repping fellow Dominicans and bringng up points like his blonde highlights(Which I am not saying isn't true). But the whole thing was ironic because he was not just talking about one Dominican, he was talking about Dominicans on a whole feeling this way when statistcally that would tell you at least one of them while calling AROD a sell out, pretends they aren't black.

They have a problem with it because they go by the "their is always an exception" rule. When you are making points in a discussion argument, use the word "always" and "alot", instead of "most" or "all".

IF we are saying "always" and "alot" to address big problems like these, there is no way in hell we can be called wrong. Because the bottom line is the whole thing is the truth. There is no way of getting around it.

Chris Tucker is a Dominican.......Is he not talking about his blackness all the time? Have we ever heard himself refer to being some nonsense about being an "Indio" :troll:

I would seriously consider being a Dominican c00n for this upcoming Halloween in public in order to make a point if i wasn't worried about embarrasing myself

papi nah im 100% de indio y español. hacer las cosas bien. cansado de negro u americanos siempre quieren que todos sean como tú. papi y mejorar la comunidad u no ur gueto para ver más de su haitianos si quieres amigos negros de África!!!!

Tucker is not Dominican. Why does this rumor persist? He's African American.

So what if they separate themselves from African Americans? they are two different nationalities. Its not the same as denying that you're black so don't try to make it so. Jamacians dont consider themselves any different than African Americans...other then the fact that we come from jamaica.

If you were Irish and you called another guy Irish who happened to be Italian. Would you be offended if he said......hey I'm not Irish I'm Italian. Of course you wouldn't, he's not shytting on ireland, he is just claiming his nationality.

If someone asks you if your black and you deny it then thats more than just separating yourself from African Americans.
