Main reason why locs are long because there is minimal messing with the hair when growing locs so you won’t be tempted to mess with it.

Right! Low manipulation so it doesn't break as much which is why hair grows longer in love. New growth is just that new growth. The roots of dreads have to be retwisted. Where do people think that new length comes from with dreads? It ain't a Harry Potter spell.

When u loc ur hair, u are literally twisting the new length of hair grown from the root.

People clown black women about our hair but our entire community knows VERY little about our hair. It's a lost knowledge.

I've seen dudes clown chicks with a tight fro saying she can't grow her hair not realizing that shrinkage exists and when stretched the girls hair is super long. Ignorance rules the day with our hair.

LOL at calling that hair super kinky...shiiiiiiet you must have never seen truely kinky hair. Plus it is well know over here that nigerians and Ghanians have hair similar to americans because i bump into many guys who have 4a and 4b hair. Its even aparent when they get waves.

this is a perfect example of the longest natural hair I see in my normal days....nothing like you describe where hair is at waist length.

Its sad that a long of women refuse to accept that genetics play a HUGE role in how long your hair can be. Its not all about the conditioners and all that. I know it simply cause i've been takin EXTRA care of my own hair but its only 2.5 inches long in 8 months of growth. I wish you lived in Southern Africa so you could actually see for yourself what im talking about.

When I first went natural years ago and my hair grew out, my roommates used to ask why my length never actually grew. Somebody pulled one little curl all the way down my back. The wtf?! moment was hilarious.
I took an inch or two off for layers about a month ago but my hair is below my shoulders now. However, if I just shampoo my hair and nothing else, I can literally pat my hair down to a short tiny afro.
