There’s notable Puerto Rican rappers and a whole scene for Mexican rappers, why no Dominican rappers?

Above the fray.
Can somebody elaborate on this

I am half-Dominican but living on the west coast so no Dominican people near me. Why has a Dominican rapper not risen to stardom?

Part of it is because of the beginning of the hip hop scenes in the areas you're implying, NY and LA.

The scene that grew out of the Bronx was an area with Latino presence, including many Puerto Ricans as fans and participants. Graffiti, b boying, djing , and emceeing.

The early Los Angeles scene had Latino dancers, Graff, and Kid Frost was paying dues as a rapper when NWA were paying their dues. And he rapped La Rasa and Mexico.

In each city, younger members of those ethnic groups identified with the music partly because they saw somebody from their group as a visible participant. So they see/think, hey this is for us too. So many tried their hand too.

Pretty sure there were D.R.s as fans/participants in early NY hip hop, especially in Graff., but the visible Latinos were likely Puerto Rican.

Bronx, NYC
Racism.

There were already American born Dominicans deep in the Heights during NY Golden Era, so geography ain't the issue. Even at the height of the Latin Kings/Blood issue, hip-hop was still American born Ricans music of choice in East Harlem and the BX. The same can't be said for Dominicans in the Heights, who still be on that Spanish reggae ish heavy.

All the young Dominican drill rappers who blowing up are from Sugar Hill and not the Heights (DD Osama, DDot, Jstar Balla) if they was from just 10 blocks up they probably wouldn't be rapping they way that they do.

People have already told you the names. Cardi B is the current one.

Please with the so and so is “half Dominican”. OP asked about Dominicans period.

Growing up in NYC, Dominicans mainly stayed with their culture of music of Bachata and Merengue, and didn’t seek to adapt to Black music. Puerto Rock youth had a different relationship with Black youth, a tight relationship of respect to each other’s culture of music. It’s unexplainable. Also, where I was living, PR and DR kids didn’t mess with each other, and since PR gravitated toward the Black man, I guess DR were like :manny: “Mi no Black papi”, and kept to themselves. Hip hop wasn’t a DR thing for some odd reason. Back then PR treated DR like Jamaicans used to treated Haitians. Like they were lower, but that’s another story.
