I think I remember him saying that he makes a killing selling these movies for foreign markets

That $5 movie been at the grocery store is getting emptier and emptier. Don’t know what it is, but there is definitely a market demographic for them.

I always thought Eastern European countries were their main demo but even they all got decent access to internet now and can torrent real movies

Bruce Willis has been putting out bunch of straight to DVD movies lately too. Not sure if he knew it or they just turned out to be trash.

Dolph Lundgren has done movies likes this his whole career, comes back in Creed 2 and Aquaman and then goes back to straight to DVD movies directed by himself

I've explained the Eric Roberts scheme on here before. Companies hire him to attach his name to a project so it's easier to draw in gullible investors (any name actor is better than no-name) and low-ball the other actors ('we paid this for Eric Roberts so we pay you less but you get to work with him').

Roberts gets on set for a day, shoots maybe a cameo or five minute bit part and then cashes his check. Sometimes he doesn't even end up in the movie, they just needed his name for pre-production financing.

On the other hand there is a market for these movies too, you can't underestimate how many people couldn't distinguish good filmmaking from bad filmmaking (or care) as long as it got gunfights, fist fights and explosions.
