Why do people never consider the medium and always jump to the extreme? Nobody’s saying Punk needs to be in a world title program off rip. There are other mediums Punk could have gone for while maintaining interest and hype for his return that are better than the same promo every week and one off Rampage matches against mid and lowcarders. shyt he could still be facing these same people while also having direction and a overall story looming over him. All we asking for is an actual story against whoever that may be. It could be Malakai, Miro, Cole, Moxley(who lets be honest doesn’t have shyt going on), Cody, Jericho, hell I wouldn’t have minded an actual feud with Darby with heat behind it or an MJF feud. He could have gone straight into a program with any one of these individuals that lasted him the next couple of months so he’s not “burning through big matchups”. By the time he gets into a program with any of these people the novelty of his return will have long worn off.

The Rocks first time back in 7 years he immediately started a program with Cena. Brocks first time back in 7 years immediately started a program with Cena. Edges first time back in a decade immediately started a program with Orton. Danielson immediately started a program with Omega. Nobody said anything about pitching game 1 of a world title series then.

The reason Punk’s return has fell flat and will continue to fall flat is quite simple and a few of us have been pointing it out for a month now: AEW doesn’t know what to do with him.

Im not saying you’re wrong about that but let’s look at this from this perspective…..

The thing you kinda big upping is also the same thing that many have loudly complained about for a minute now. New guys getting that shotgun booking (ala Golderg over Fiend)

When those guys came back (the Rocks, the Brocks, and the Cenas) part of the reason they kinda have to go straight to a main event is because everyone on the roster outside of the main guy is booked sooooooo fukking weak or terrible…. It don’t make no sense for them to be booked against anyone else.

Also back to the champ, since they don’t have any legit contenders they kinda have throw a big outside challenge at them

Maybe if…… not necessarily not bury guys, but maybe if they made multiple other people more engaging and worth a lot more. Champs can have legit other challenges and the part timers can get into something with someone else.
