And It might not be bad.

I-Saw-the-Devil-2010-Movie-Poster1.jpeg

Just days before their latest genre film “The Guest” hits theaters, Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard are nearing a deal to write and direct an English-language remake of Kim Jee-Woon's 2010 South Korean serial killer thriller “I Saw the Devil,” TheWrap has learned.
Snoot Entertainment, the company behind “The Guest” and “You're Next,” has also boarded the project. Snoot's Keith Calder and Jessica Calder will produce with Adi Shankar (“Dredd”) and Spencer Silna.

The original “I Saw the Devil” is a classic revenge tale about an elite special agent (“G.I. Joe's” Lee Byung-hun) whose pregnant fiancé is murdered by an evil madman (“Oldboy's'” Choi Min-sik), prompting him to lure the killer into an increasingly violent and twisted game of cat-and-mouse.

Like Denis Villeneuve‘s “Prisoners,” the premise of “I Saw the Devil” basically asks the question, “what happens when the hero becomes a monster himself?”

“I Saw the Devil” is character-driven rather than plot-driven, as the mystery of the killer's identity is revealed early on. As the lines between good and evil become blurred, the film pushes the concept of revenge to its most extreme limits, effectively transcending the police procedural and serial killer genres in surprising and thrilling new ways.

The deal has been in the works for some time now, as Barrett has already started writing the script and director Wingard has begun meeting with actors, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

CAA will represent domestic rights to the “I Saw the Devil” remake, having packaged the project and set up the rights with Shankar and Silna's production company.

Wingard and Barrett previously collaborated on “A Horrible Way to Die,” “V/H/S” and “You're Next,” which made them darlings of the genre community.

I thin it will depend on who will star in it...I know it will never happen, but Denzel Washington & Will Smith would be great if the remake keeps the same intensity of the original.

you act like you directed the fukking movie
the old movie will still be there after the remake you know, it's not like the remake will replace the original.
If you like the old one watch the old one and dont watch the new one

It doesnt replace it, but for the people that never heard of it, will judge the original based off the remake, and may never see the original now.. however if its fukks around and is better (which wont happen) then it could be a good thing... but we all know this has disapointment waiting to happen, if it was an original movie based offf the original then I understand.. I said the same aobut old boy and the remake was trash....

Whole post is on some nonsense.

Before if I'd tell someone to check out "Oldboy", there was only one version for them to find.

Since the remake, they will find Spike Lee's version first just off it being American, with a well known lead (Josh Brolin).

Then they'll proceed to hit me with a :what: because I spent the last 10 years telling them how great it was. Then they won't check for the original because "they already seen the movie".

And before you say "that don't happen often" :camby:

It's happened for "Oldboy", [REC], and "Let The Right One In". It'll most likely happen again for "The Raid" and "I Saw The Devil".

So, I don't have a problem with remakes, I have a problem with remaking shyt that is still a part of current pop culture. This movie came out 2 fukking years ago.

Fred.

you can tell them to check out the korean film.
i didnt see the remake of oldboy but i know ppl who saw it and the original, and they said that the remake was good.
if you go to see it with the "this movie is gonna suck" mentality of course you will hate it.
Like i said, i dont mind remakes because i can still watch the original whenever i want to.
