By nature, I prefer cremation, but I heard recently that cremating, in some cases, pollutes more than burials. Anyone have info on this?
I think people were concerned about the mercury in older tooth fillings being burned

Does it matter? every river meets the oceanIm indian, getting cremated and thrown into the water.
Where though, is the question
I read that too but it was more to do with the enviromental cost of the energy used to cremate a body whether wood ,gas or electricity because it takes like 600 MJoules to turn a body into ash which is a lot of energyBy nature, I prefer cremation, but I heard recently that cremating, in some cases, pollutes more than burials. The Swedish company wants to take your body, freeze it in liquid nitrogen and then shatter you into a million pieces using sound waves (this ensures you crumble into a powder). Once this is done, the powder is put into a vacuum chamber where all water within it boils instantly. This reduces the powders mass by 70% this is quite a lot considering it still weights the same as a body. What is left is organic residue along with any medical devices you might have had implanted in you (such as pacemakers). These are separated out and the powder is sterilized. Your powder is then placed in a cornstarch coffin which allow the remains to turn into compost within a year and half. Simple!

No more taking up space when you're dead. I pass by graveyards and see selfishness.
Just something I was thinking about today

Bum azz...
do you know how much land we have that's not being utilized? I can think of some ol I dont know, Wyoming, Idaho, Dakotas, Nevada. We choose to live on top of each other, when in actuality we're no where near max capacity. we could actually triple the size of our population and be alright land wise. It's energy that is an issue. We use lots of it.

The problem is arable land ..Most cemeteries are in places that would be suitable for agriculture
Are u suggesting burying everyone there, cuz nobody wants to live there
arent you liberals supposed to be accepting and open-minded?
exactly. middle america like montana is most def arable land. in fact that's where most of our farm land is (middle states), not populated cities
i live in brooklyn and have a SMALL backyard.
i grow:
Lettuce
potatoes
figs
peppers
tomatoes
herbs / spices...etc.
if the rooftops of NYC where used to collect solar power, water, and grow food...it would be a wrap.
