Plus I think people goes into "horror" movies with a negative :childplease: perspective anyway

My recent favorites are Insidious and Sinister, I'm a fan

They get props because they built tension well in their early acts...it's just that both completely lose steam as they move along.

Foreign Horror is the way to go, but even those have been lacking. I really liked A Tale of Two Sisters though and Haute Tension (High Tension) was a better slasher flick than pretty much anything to drop our way in a long time.

as much as dudes wanna complain about how movies suck now.

go back to the 80's, it was no different then either.

But nostalgia has everyone thinking that it was all good back then( Even music)

No one remembers all the trash that was out before, only the good stuff. Thats why it always seems so dire these days.

the 80's is when a lot of these trends began. it became more about figuring out funny ways for Jason to put a machete through someone

That's because the advent of the internet killed the imagination.

We've seen it all now. Scary movies used to be scary because of the unknown, the implied, the strangeness of certain situations. Partially due to naivety.

The world wide web killed all of that. Now in order to top that it's cheap scares and gore. Instead of good plots, creepy sets, and actually scaring someone instead of just making them jump.

Internet killed the horror movie.

The Land of fukkery
You should keep up the French horror scene, they have some good shyt coming out, not really scary but cringe and bad dreams at night worthy. Some relevant( in the past 5-10 years) classics are Al'Interieur( Inside) and the Martyrs( this shyt will literally fukk with you, specially the ending). And old classic Salo.

Martyrs was wack to me.. ..salo on the other hand is not a scary flick its a serious mind fukk film that I NEVER want to see again.. .to bad you can't unsee certain things in this life.. .:sadcam:

nikkas acting like Insidious didn't crush the horror buildings. :stopitslime:

There's a difference between legit "scary" tension and "disturbing" scenes.

I liked drag me to hell, dunno about it being truly scary, but I enjoyed it when I saw it at the cinema.

Martyrs is just torture porn. They really need to seperate that type stuff from traditional horror. It's not really scary, it's more like they're just trying to see how much fukked up shyt you can see a person endure until you tapped out.

But yeah, martyrs had me standing outside on my patio afterwards, smoking a cig and looking up at the sky contemplating all types of shyt. Fuuuuck that movie

This 100%. fukkin' hated that movie despite watching the whole thing. I really wanted to stop but I just kept watching :why:

After I finished the movie I seriously thought about going to the dentist to get a tooth extraction. Keep the teeth and hollow it out to place a cyanide pill in it just in case I got snatched up for torture. :welldamn:

fukk that movie for real.

Check out some foreign stuff, Japanese horror can get pretty creepy.

Also there's a manga titled Fuan no Tane(and Fuan no Tane plus) that is a bunch of short little tales that is best read at night. A lot of them are just creepy and nothing is really explained in them but some of the faces and ideas in those stories will just...you know what just read through it at night. In the dark. With no background noise, for me my mind began to wander with each story I read and the back of my neck started to feel funny and when I left the computer my mind kept thinking about the stories. Had to watch some cartoons to get my mind off it . Not all of the stories are great but just keep reading them until you finish, each story is unrelated to each other and they're all like 3 or 4 pages long.

But that sounds like what you want, the type of real horror that will make you keep thinking about it. The kind of horror that has your imagination running wild when you're walking down a dark street at night or even when you're walking from the computer to your room in the dark. The kind of horror that follows you before you go to sleep at night, the kind of horror that makes you want to turn on the lights, the kind of horror that makes you constantly keep looking behind you, the kind of horror that makes you afraid to walk into a dark room in your house even though you know nothing is in there but your mind is tricking you into believing that you should be scared.
