also independents were mostly ambivalent or pro obama and ready for a change from bush and never cared about romney

You are grossly underestimating the widespread disgust and disillusionment with the GOP. Only 32% of the country takes a favorable view of them, compared with 48% for the Democrats, as of this June. Plus for better or worse Hillary will take a sizeable chunk of the independent female vote. I hate Hillary and think she is slimy as fukk but you have to be a true idiot to think her chances of election are weak compared to any GOP candidate.
