I'm not denying this by any means, but how do they know it's 8.8 billion exactly? It would take more than a lifetime just to count to that number.

I always love teaching bytches about the planets and stars, though, and putting into perspective that we can't possibly be the only forms of life in the universe. They always think I'm a genius when I go into it because astronomy genuinely does interest me. Last chick I was with, I was on vacation with her parents and I went into my universe/aliens spiel and they asked her when I wasn't around if I was an Atheist.

On a more scientific point, just because these planets have life, doesn't mean they are exactly like us. Just think, the first creatures to dominate the globe were micro-organisms. Then after a long string of evolution from our planet specific geology, we had dinosaurs. Mammals (us) were around but were way at the bottom of the food chain. If it wasn't for that asteroid that wipe out the dinosaurs, our predecessors would have been Dino chow.

Would be nice to how life evolves in different theaters.
