Just look at how the Dudley Boys did the 3D finisher. Looks brutal but they protect their opponents the whole way through so they don't get hurt.

Yeah, it's very subtle but Bubba Ray actually uses his big body to cushion a lot of the impact to the opponent. That's why he's always the one catching the guy

Yup, though he's clarified that it wasn't actually his neck that got hurt, but his spinal cord. His neck is fine, but the spinal issues affect his limbs and his back to this day.

You have very little control of your fall while a DDT is one of the easiest moves to protect yourself in. And the Stunner is super safe, Austin's taking most of the bump
