You know who could have easily brought in that teenage demographic they’re coveting now?

20 + years ago that was the same sentiment
Only problem is that they don't have a stone cold or any other charismatic wrestlers on their roster to make things entertaining. Back then there was Austin, rock, mankind, undertaker, dx, etc. All kept us interested in what they were gonna do and had the abilities to cut promos and wrestle. I don't know if the promos are scripted now or what but the roster they have now doesn't have it as far as characters are concerned. Even before the attitude era you still had wrestlers that had gimmicks. Now mostly everyone just a wrestler with no personality. Only thing saving them is those who can wrestle particularly the guys who made a name for themselves elsewhere but even still they tone down the wrestling to fit a certain style. They recycle the same group of wrestlers every show and then change one or two out here and there depending on injuries and whatnot. They focused on social media and expanding the brand when they don't have the talent to show for it. Some wrestlers build characters, others are just bland and uninteresting no matter what their wrestling skills may be.

This should've been their goal from the start. You start with the PG stuff with the children audience and you gradually mature up with them. I thought they did that with my audience growing up going from tail end of Rock-N-Wrestling, to the New Generation to the Attitude Era. I guess I gave them too much credit :mjlol:

They blew it with this last decade of kids. A 7-year-old who started watching wrestling in 2008 is probably playing Fortnight and watching Netflix, while not even thinking about wrestling.

Now because of the advent of streaming, unless the kid has a parent who is a wrestling fans, they won't even find it channel surfing.

I have teenage nephews and nieces. Only 2 currently watch wrestling on a casual basis. All these YouTube “stars” have these teens locked down or they’ playing video games. It might be too little too late to start trying to appeal to them. Cursing isn’t gonna do it cause they probably hear that shyt plenty at home, having the women be more risqué when porn is so easily accessible is another long shot. shyt, most of them are half naked on IG anyway.

Big E needs to be allowed to be EXACTLY how he is on twitter and pushed forward

He could be a strong step in the right direction of tapping that demographic without it feeling forced.
This relates to a major problem wrestling has right now though: In the 90's, wrestling was one of the best sources of fukkery. Most of television was lame and tame compared to the Monday Night Wars. But now that it's 2019 and everybody on Earth is online, there's no way to meet internet fukkery levels on TV. Only thing popping on TV is "prestige" shyt like Game of Thrones where the writers have the patience to plan out a decade-long story arc. I don't watch GoT so don't nobody get mad at me if I've totally mis-characterized the show, but what I'm saying is....

I don't even know what I'm saying. Seasons 1 and 2 of Lucha Underground were the last good thing in wrestling and it was due to patient writing, having a season long plan, a unique wrestling presentation, and unleashing old fashioned blood and guts VIOLENCE. All things that Vince will never do, aside from the occasions when Brock wants to hardway somebody.

uhhhhh yea, they are stupid for ever thinking you can just ignore an entire demographic, no other form of entertainment does that. The NBA makes sure to overrate these foreign guys just to try to get some overseas eyes and have some white skin in the league. they always highlight the weirdo fashion that the kids are into now and they keep older analyst around to satisfy the older market..

Vince has arrogantly chosen to ignore anyone over 12 the past 10 years and his rating got worse each year.

However like some have said, cursing and have an occasional HLA moment isnt going to win over these kids, the storytelling (we been saying for years) needs to be more concise and thought out. No one is going to watch on a consistent basis if the storytelling continues to be inconsistent and bland.. They also need to fins some characters, for their top guys, no more pushing guys that have the "look" they need to be interesting.. until ALL these things happen they will continue to see declining ratings

11 years of ignoring the teens are catching up to them. The New Day were the only ones that were in touch, everyone else making obscure ass references from the 70s.

The problem is that most people in my age group view WWE as corny, just cursing and showing Alexa’s naked back won’t change that, they got to have bigger changes, maybe Heyman can be that change.
