I rather Black fathers just be more involved in their child's lives. The cookie cutter nuclear family is decreasing across the board not just in the Black community. The west especially the USA is just not built for it anymore.

The modern concept of marriage as the union of two adults who willingly want to live together because they love/care for each other is quite recent, a couple centuries MAX. Before that marriage was used for business, practical and political ends and almost always decided by parents/society. That changed with the development of towns and young people moving earlier out of their homes and going away for work, women's liberation and a general change in mentalities in recognizing the individual's will. And the declining influence of religion.
Matter of fact the sort of peer pressure we see today in having people marry is probably a leftover from that era when marriage was a social/moral obligation to have children, a way to keep women's sexuality in check and a rite of passage of sorts. It also obviously built alliances between families, thus was something that "solidified" societies. You still see effects of that mentality in countries where for example you might pay less taxes and/or receive more help is you're married as opposed to being single.
