I guess. Seems more like a precursor to fully monetizing the internet. Less piracy, easier way to tax consumers, even more data for marketers.

Imagine a world where you could back-bill internet users for all the illegal content they've downloaded or penalize anonymous posters for hate speech.

For the record, I'm against all of that, however, the old dinosaur politicians who pass legislation written for them by the the interest groups that run the internet will be able to agree with this kind of thinking on both sides of the political aisle.

Money motivates like crazy and most people aren't tech savvy enough or willing to break laws enough to put up the good fight.

Consider our current political landscape where it's now a foregone conclusion that corruption exists. What do we do to combat that? Not a god damn thing that's what.

it would be the same as having open voting ballots so anyone can figure out who you voted for, which will be a thing eventually (and a good thing too) but not in this current society
