I feel sad for Reggie Lewis...he died because of something he couldnt control:to:

Len Bias, however, took his own life.

I feel sympathy for his family, but breh, you just got drafted #1 to the NBA....you celebrate in your dorm room by smoking a crack rock?

Granted, you didnt know you would overdose, but still....wtf?:wtf:

Why?

I thought he overdosed on Cocaine?

Yeah....it was cocaine.

Same thing though. He should've put the hard drugs down once he knew he was getting drafted with a top 5 pick :yeshrug:

All drafted basically back to back in 1986.....Len Bias #2 , Chris Washburn #3 , William Bedford #6 , and Roy Tarpley #7 all threw away their careers and millions fukking with crack/coke:snoop:

If Reggie wouldn't have died the Celtics would have never went through that down period in the 90's that they did. He was a baller and just entering his prime years when he was taken away so suddenly.

Didn't Reggie Lewis also use cocaine? I may be wrong but I remember reading that may have aggravated his heart condition?

Idk about this

McHale retired and Parrish was let go after that season.

Reggie Lewis was good but there is some overrating going on in this thread.

Reggie lewis was great but mj status is a bit of hyperbole. He would've been a regular all star, maybe reggie miller status, and i was really bothered by his death. I had and have a lot of his basketball cards.

Great defender as you see above. I dont know of a player comparison today, but he could do a little of everything

Exactly, being a good athlete doesn't make your death any more tragic.
Loss of obvious potential always bothers people more...which is why athlete and young student death bothers more than a young gangster or drug addict. Their tragedy was realized when their life went awry. Lewis and bias were right at the cusp of greatness which is tougher to stomach.
