You know, he's really a master at making vulgar pop music.

This shyt sounds like some extra high level pop shyt. Like the hook with the repeated (ha ha ha ha ha )

But then you look at the lyrics

"Main bytch outta your league too, ah
Side bytch outta your league too, ah"

Like some real baller stunting shyt

"Twenty racks a table, carved from ebony Cut that ivory into skinny pieces Then she clean it with her face man I love my baby"

Once again singing about bytches sniffing coke off expensive tables.

Singing about cars, girls, drugs, money, and it's wrapped in such a package that people won't even know what the fukk their singing about.

He's stayin true to his earlier work by still keeping up with them vulgar, dark ass lyrics.
It's just repackaged into a pop, easy listening, Friday night on the highway form.

It's genius. It's like if MJ had all those rhythms and cadences but just rapped about degenerate shyt.

We're lucky to have Abel :king: :win:
100% agreed. Him and Doc Mckinney have that shyt on lock, and had it perfected since HOB since the beginning.

And now it's just hit after hit after hit and never seems to get old. Weeknd might be a legend. He doesn't have the finesse or showmanship but he is the underworlds Michael Jackson.

Putting Daft Punk on this is just unfair. Panties are dropping all over the world rn :wow:

You sound like Me. :mjcry: I'm guessing you're 20-22

It was the same for me. I was a young degenerate who was feeling himself and could never find music to fit my lifestyle at the time. Always high. Scheme God, Scumbag young nikka.

And when I came across the Weeknd, I just remember being so fukking happy. I heard HOB like 2 days after it dropped.

And it was a wrap.

I had a threesome to Thursday that summer, smoke sessions to HOB.

Sniffed a bunch of oxy to Thursday too with my then side piece :mjcry:

Walking into a party while Lonely Star is playing :to:

People will never understand what pre mixed and mastered Trilogy means to me. :ahh:

I'm totally okay with this new shyt and I will support because he gave me some moments :banderas:
Yeah breh I am young, and that is how I feel about it. BBTM was great but his early works.... I ain't mad he ouchea doing what he gotta do to blow up even bigger. The combination of HOB and drugs always had me in the mindset I needed to pull

No. He's a step above Tiller but no where in the league of a Miguel or Ocean. He makes mediocre druggie shock tracks with a tinge of mainstream pop appeal by talking about vapid braggadocius bullshyt that every generic R&B artist does
That doesn't mean he isn't a great songwriter

Your writing doesn't have to be abstract and filled with double meanings about he troubles of the world to be considered good song writing

You're missing the point though.

The entire reason he's a good songwriter is because he can give lyrics like those mainstream pop appeal. That's not normal.

Miguel and Ty have songs like that? Ocean doesn't either but a lot of people don't listen to music past first take

the pop appeal is coming from the labels hired pens be real
if they just let him put out raw recordings it would sound like the trilogy lyrically
a borderline dope fiend rambling in the booth and that's what gave him his lane in the first place
