When you say acapella, are you talking about the vocal track from the original song? If so, I can see how that could throw AI for a loop, if it's trying to model the finished product after that. I'm assuming the acapella also includes the overdubs they include for him to do fills/backup for himself.

Makes sense, the AI is probably just flattening out the vocal track to get one note to reproduce, regardless of whether that not actually works with the previous one.

Yep. For all of his clear aspiration to be like a modern Michael Jackson, "Out of Time" is low key probably the closest he'll actually get, since you can easily see him on the track.
