It was a great ending to an era but I still feel like the franchise dropped the ball with how the original series ended. Rick and Michonne's departure from the OG series kinda messed up everything and how it should've ended.
The spinoffs wouldn't have been necessary.
I think if Rick and Michonne found each other, etc on the flagship show, after the Commonwealth arc finished up in season 11 they could've had a season 12 with that being the major and final arc of the series. It would've made for a better ending with Rick reuniting with all the people he shared blood, sweat, and tears with throughout nine seasons.
It's a nice ending but underwhelming because we don't see them unite with the fan favorites and long-tenured characters. The Gabriel episode was good but I was disappointed that they never reunited in those final moments of Jadis dying especially after they found his machete on that walker giving the illusion that he was nearby.
