true in many ways I think the revolution helped black Cubans and saved the island from becoming like Haiti, DR or Jamaica where Afro/black peoples suffer most specifically cause racism

It’s better off many ways but Cuba isn’t “perfect” in any sense racially even there is racism mainly racial profiling of the black Cubans especially when it comes to dealing with tourists, and some job opportunities, etc

I will say Cuba is probably the most anti racist/non racial society I’ve ever experienced

that’s why Cuba now and their entire history is so unique/special

but black Afro Cubans into black American culture are more aware of race

and the white rich Cubans obviously got rich families in Miami who left cause Castro from way back helping them so can’t blame em

Dap and rep thats exactly 100 percent the case, the new generation my age and under are still into a national cubanidad identity but thanks to black americans theres more black pride goin on than since any point after angela davis and that era (panthers and black power was huge over there)

Idk wtf tariq is talking about with the black turks tho, i know there are black turks (zanj?) but ive never heard of turks as a whole considering themselves black

They don't live near/with us in America.

Yea that sounds like some Euro hood shyt where Turks and Africans grow up in the same blocks and claim each other like Puerto Ricans and Black folk in NY but idk, I didnt even think Turkey was deep in the world like that tho its usually Arabs I see but Arabs are :mjpls:

do the turks even click well with the africans and caribbeans in the UK, germany and netherlands?

North African Arabs usual gravitate more to blacks/black culture than white in my experience with those I’ve met in USA/Canada

I figure Turks might behave the same in Uk but I’m not even sure if Turks are considered Arab though :patrice:

Then again I’m not even sure if Arab is even a race to begin with either :manny:

so you don’t consider modern day “Arabs” from that region Black?

what race are they then?

what’s your distinction between Black African/Arab/White?

I go by the modern concepts of race and specifically the American construct which is malleable based off of community, politics, and history.

It's hard to fit modern concepts of race into how humans viewed themselves in antiquity. And I don't like to use modern ideas about race to define people in antiquity, for instance, labeling ancient Egyptians as being 'black'.

What is known is that Arabs were considered to be descendants of Ham and Ham got associated with Africa. Whether we want to call them black because of that is something else.

Using modern concepts of race, they are middle eastern/arab.

yea but if you take religion out the equation, what are Arabs really?

people who speak Arabic?

Then what were Arab people before Arabic was widely spoken/written or associated with a region

What’s the difference between the “Arab world” today and “Latino/Latin America” when it comes to defining race/culture?

I don’t think humans viewed themselves as “Arab”
or “black” in antiquity cause they knew who they were/where they came from just by looking at each other

Later they created the Arab race to set themselves apart for mainly religious reasons or to unify themselves for power

anyways I could be wrong, but going by your map and their own religious beliefs most Arabs today should consider themselves “black”.

I wish some posters like you would help correct the “stupidity” in this thread instead of making pointless comments, otherwise you’re no better than the rest of us :mjlol:

If you’ve got nothing nice/constructive to say....maybe just lurk the thread and keep quiet. :manny:
