I get where he’s coming from to a degree. There may be instances where an employer will hire a gay man because he’s not a threat or they can place him in a stereotypical position like receptionist.
But Tariq and a lot of other conscious brothers have this idea about all black gay men working these high power positions and being editor at the root. The average everyday black man that happens to be gay doesn’t work at the root or any cushy position where they’re “switching” around the office (as he puts it) Most bruthas I know try and downplay their sexuality because they don’t want to bring attention to themselves on the job. I’ve been at jobs where I try and deflect and ask about everyone else because I don’t want that stigma. I’m not switching around the site, snapping in z formation because I think the white supremacists will go easy on me. I’ve seen effeminate brothers get bullied like shyt by the frat white boy types. Literally have NEVER seen a black gay man at a job and white peoples were bowing at his feet...where???!!!
