I don't even consider Cole a southern artist. Most of his inspirations are NYC based. Not that he's a native but the influence is clear. He lives in NYC and raps about NYC a lot. Especially early onThe south didn't "take over" hip hop until about 2006. As of now, no region in particular runs rap, but besides J.Cole, Future & Young Thug none of the hottest artist in rap come from the south.
I actually live in the south now and southern artist are nowhere near as big as they were when I first moved here.
But I thought NY hate on each other thats why they fell off? That's because these east coast radio stations push the shyt like crazy. Remember the Funk Flex fiasco when we was waiting for a Meek Mill drop and we heard Fetty Wap about roughly a hundred times in an hour?
No Limit had the game on lock after 98, Cash Money was taking over in 2000 and was dominating in 2002 and other regions were getting major play. The south didn't "take over" hip hop until about 2006. Its a put down. It's not put down because it's a fact. The south makes good music. That's Undeniable imo. The quality just isn't upper echelon. It ain't there. Not in comparison to Cali and NYC.
Nobody in No Limit was hotter than DMX or Jay Z in 98, or 99.No Limit had the game on lock after 98, Cash Money was taking over in 2000 and was dominating in 2002 and other regions were getting major play.
That said try to read what I posted, because my point isn't who runs rap now, its the mindset that NYCers and north east guys have in steady trying to put the south down to boost themselves up.
Its a put down.
Its not a fact is an opinion.
Try to understand moving forward the difference between subjective and objective statements.
Your opinion along with personal preferences are subjective statements, quality is subjective.
What region you think is the best or order of regions from best to worst, they are subjective.
They are your opinion.
But I thought NY hate on each other thats why they fell off?
I think that the fact that NYC (one city in one state) is considered a region and is held to the same standard as The South (multiple states, multiple cities) is all the proof you need that the level of greatness and expectation is different. Its not a fact is an opinion.

People say "The South" and compare it to NYC like the south is one place. nikkas be from Memphis, Atlanta, NOLA, H-Town and everywhere else and say "NYC fell off".
There's been time when ATL, NOLA, MEMPHIS etc has fallen off too but no one notices it because it's all "The South".
When one city is thrown up against multiple cities and held to that same standard. It becomes clear that that one city is a big deal.
Da Last Don came out at the height of No Limit around 98 if I believe so year, I can say with confidence No Limit was pretty big in teh game, despite of being frozen out of your local NYC papers and radio stations at the time. No Limit was huge actually. 400 degreez came out in 98 as well Hot boyz were dropping in 99 and 2000 in a big way as well.Nobody in No Limit was hotter than DMX or Jay Z in 98, or 99.
Wrong, Shmurda was hot before he got locked upOutside of Fetty (who's still trash but he does numbers) both those dudes were flash in the pan, one hit wonders though. I won't deny that the "hard beat/diff flow" is a huge key to a lot of guys short-term success & hype but guys like Gotti and a slew of others have sustained their followings and had real careers as musical acts. They might not chart as high but they do well for themselves.
The reason you see these guys with one hit wonder ass records chart so high is cuz they're from New York and fads in New York do huge numbers

Bruh, they just started in like the past year, are you serious.Name one New York artist with a southern or drill style that's not only had chart topping hits but also sustained true long success. I'm talking 3+ albums deep, if they're truly that much better. ( outside of maybe Nicki minaj )
I fukk with New York and southern artists. each group has their own strengths/weakness. Why not enjoy both for their own reasons?:kobeshrug:
because people can understand them better??Never noticed that. East Coast rappers have more success with it than the South Does
Fetty, Bobby and Desiigner have all had bigger records than South artists
