I like the old mixtape way, i have no problems with dj's shouting over the track or 50 talking smack about how much money he has.

but i have to say these "new mixtapes" are just free albums tbh in this era.

Alot of artists give a away their best music months and maybe even years before they drop a debut album, this is one of the reasons nikkas album sales look like they do. Why pay for a nikkas album and he's givin you all he's got 3 or 4 times before his shyt officially drops? There is no element of suprise or exciting suspense when it comes to releases anymore.

Some artist will put some cuts from a mixtape on an album which I think really cripples replay value but it's usually label heads at fault for bad marketing. Yet with mixtape your almost always guaranteed artistic integrity that you won't get when an official project is pushed in a certain direction.

To me the trade off just makes the buzz for mixtapes stronger than it did for albums. Win win situation for the fans, maybe not so much for the artist, at least financially.

Word, only problem is that many of these dinosaur n***as act like they never seen the current mixtape game before when they talk about the current state of Hip-Hop like really my dude :youngsabo:

Rappers are really creative and taking the game to new heights, lets be honest :birdman:

Another thing that is dope about the modern mixtape is that people have gotten back to talking only about the music...at least for a little while. The conversation inevitably devolves into talk about how many records the artist is going to sell when he releases a commercial album. For a moment, though, people just appreciate the music and an artist's creativity. And that's been missing, unfortunately.
