thats my point its about luck in the nba and winning the lottery the year a once a decade franchise player is available

Yes the Spurs did well with late round gems in Manu and Tony so have other nba teams but they didnt have the luxury of having a top 10 player of all time to put around their draft gems

Like who? Only ones that come to mind off top are Rashard, Gilbert, and Boozer and they all left and had their most productive years elsewhere due to the teams not being able to afford re-signing them because you don't get the same cap exception with 2nd rnd picks. BTW Boozer was in Cleveland with Bron's once in a generation ass and the Cavs fukked that all up. No matter how you slice it there is something to be said for not only finding those late round gems but holding on to them.

Cavs really fukked up not keeping Boozer because they were too cheap to pay him

Boozer was :mjpls: :umad: when he left

Good list. I never denied the necessity of luck I am just pointing out that every great team got lucky somehow in order to get their once in a generation guy. However every team that got a once in a generation guy didn't do a good job putting those right guys around them. You gotta get lucky but you also gotta be good too.

If the NBA has taught us anything, If you have the best player you'll eventually win a championship

Wilt
Magic
Mike
Kareem
Larry
Hakeem
Shaq
Duncan
Kobe
Lebron

When your the best player, your chips will eventually come

That's just how basketball is. One guy can have such an impact on both ends that if you don't get one of those top guys you really don't have a shot.

first, neg

second, 4 chips, highest winning percentage in all of pro sports, ESPN's franchise of the decade

and you really questioning Spurs draft skills? you saw what Kwahi Leonard did last year? if other teams the same scouting brains as the Spurs he would have been a top 3 pick

:stopitslime:

The Spurs do not have the best winning percentage in all of sports. You do realize the team existed before Tim Duncan went pro right?

The Spurs blueprint is VERY solid, but I sometimes think people talk about the Spurs blueprint and let it overshadow the greatness of Tim Duncan. Duncan can walk up to anybody and say "I am the best player of my generation" and nobody will roll an eye.

Isn't that pretty much true of every centerpiece of teams that won that many titles within a decade? People talk about the greatness of the Lakers and Celtics FO's but it never overshadows the greatness of Russell, Magic, Kareem, Kobe, Bird, etc.

im not gonna say their blueprint is overrated. first of all, not a lot of teams would have the guts to sit robinson and tank. also do you know how hard it is to add new free agents and draft picks when you constantly have low draft picks and when you arent a major free agent destination. (name the biggest spurs free agent acquisition??)

i will say this. i think popovich took advantage of a great coaching .situation. firing bob hill, getting duncan and now your the one of greatest coaches of all time? i think bob hill would have been successful with the duncan spurs as well.
