The Spurs blueprint for building a team is highly overrated

All you hear from fans and certain gm's is how they want to build teams like the Spurs and how the Spurs are the model franchise and blag blah blah :rudy:

The Spurs won multiple titles because of TIM DUNCAN if they dont tank and win the lottery that year nobody is praising the Spurs for multiple titles and how great they are at finding talent

Manu and Parker are nice little players who were good role players around Duncan but now that Duncan isnt the same player the Spurs cant win titles anymore..

Spurs arent geniuses they got lucky in the lotto

Heres how you can become the next "great" gm and "model franchise" in the nba.. gut your team and pray to win the lottery in 2014 the year Andrew Wiggins is available

first, neg

second, 4 chips, highest winning percentage in all of pro sports, ESPN's franchise of the decade

and you really questioning Spurs draft skills? you saw what Kwahi Leonard did last year? if other teams the same scouting brains as the Spurs he would have been a top 3 pick

of course you need a franchise player, but they kept dude and won titles with him. And brought in two all stars/fringe HOFers like Parker and Ginobli.

Ginobli and Parker are all stars. They haven't been role players since 04-05'

There good players but without Duncan they are not nearly as good hes the main reason they won titles without him they win NONE

Duncan won a title when Parker was a rookie on the bench in the playoffs and Speedy Claxton started over him and was there 2nd best player in the playoffs :ld:

Not sure if it's the FO or ownership but they haven't added enough talent to the team over the past 6-7 years.

Almost every team that won a title did so mainly because of the superstar they got in the draft or poached from another team. Every team that won multiples titles did so mainly because of the superstar they got in the draft or poached from another team. NBA is a superstar driven, top heavy sport. You aren't gonna win without a superstar the majority of the time (pre-emptive :comeon: at the nikkas ready to throw the once in a generation 04 Pistons out there). You aren't gonna get a superstar in a market like SA unless you draft him. Beyond that having a superstar in and of itself doesn't automatically guarantee a title. You gotta make the right moves and put the right guys around him. Getting two all-star caliber guys from the late first and 2nd round is nothing to dismiss. Teams often miss on lottery picks and they managed to get championship caliber support from late in the draft, that doesn't happen in the NBA very often. Of course you have to get lucky in the draft but if you don't make the right moves you aren't winning a title, let alone multiples.

You're missing what their blueprint is though. Of course they lucked up with obtaining Duncan... but they were able to usher in affordable contracts around their 'big 3' by abusing rookie contracts and vet min deals. Its the exact system OKC is about to do around KD, Russ, and Serge.

Aside from Robert Horry for a few games who the fukk outside of their big 3 played a big role in them winning titles:heh:

roel players are interchangable in the nba and only as good as the players around them

Which is exaclty why being lucky/shrewd in terms of drafting is so important.

thats my point its about luck in the nba and winning the lottery the year a once a decade franchise player is available

Yes the Spurs did well with late round gems in Manu and Tony so have other nba teams but they didnt have the luxury of having a top 10 player of all time to put around their draft gems
