Rome is great. It's a lot like Oz in that it set up Game of Thrones for HBO. They cancelled it after 1 full season because the production costs for Rome weren't considered worth it; so they rushed the 2nd and final season, which suffers for it. But the project they had with Rome is what persuaded them to pick up Game of Thrones.

They should have slowed the pace of the show. They could have ended season 1 with the end of the Caesarian civil war, and then ended season 2 with Caesar's assassination. Then they could have spent season 3 dealing with the fall out of the assassination, and concluded that season with the end of the second civil war. And then season 4 on the Second Triumvirate, concluding with its breakdown. And finally season 5 would have ended with the final civil war.

Instead they compressed all of that, 20 years of history, into just two seasons. It's such a shame because it would have been the goat show if HBO had paid it the respect it deserved and committed to five seasons. Not only is the history fascinating enough to justify that, so was the acting, the costumes, the sets, all that shyt. It was a visually stunning show, it wasn't just the history which made it so good.

Yeah I read about they were planning to go through a lot of eras and whatnot. I think they were going to include Jesus or something

If I remember correctly, with Rome the writers learned S2 would be the last season so they hastily sped things up. First season is great but that second season def feels rushed and suffers because of it. Given the success of Game Of Thrones and other fantasy shows, I'd love to see HBO return with another show focusing on Rome. A modern remake of I, Claudius could be amazing. The sex, intrigue, politicking, costume design, etc today would be amazing whether they do that particular story or something else.

@Sukairain do you think the show The Borgias on Showtime had a case for GOAT?
It's a damn good show, but not even close to GOAT status. I actually bought the seasons some months back and was gonna put my mom up on the show, but I'm pretty sure there's plenty of sex shyt. I already binged some HBO shows (Sopranos included) with her and I'm fine with not watching premium cable shows with her again. :heh:

I started watching this for the first time recently and I gotta say, it's overated imo. Tony is a scumbag and not an easy character to root for.

I felt that way when I first watched it…I marathoned it pretty fast so the comedic aspect of it went over my head…I viewed it strictly as a drama which was pretty underwhelming…there was a thread on here that showcased how many funny moments I missed…so I watched the series again from the perspective of it more so being a dramedy and the show resonated with me much better…it helped too that a lot of time had passed since I first watched the show…and yes tony is a giant piece of shyt…don’t know if my initial viewing experience mirrors yours…maybe you peeped all that and simply just didn’t like it period

Can't argue with that. Show became my number 1 after a re-watch. :ld:

wow this is a pretty fukking extensive list although I don’t agree with the rankings…‘fleabag’ in the top 5 is wild af to me…I gotta remember to add ‘veep’ to my watchlist

I watched the first 2-3 seasons of Veep and thought it was all right. :ld:

Never seen Fleabag, but isn’t that show still going on? No current show show even be in the top 15. Even if it’s over, at least give it some more years to settle in. :dahell:

ya someone recommended veep to me a few weeks back…been meaning to check it out…I saw the first season of fleabag…I think there are 2…maybe 3 seasons but season 2 has to be one hell of a fukking season to throw that shyt up in the top 5 cuz season 1 wasn’t it…a very solid show but compared to other shyt on that list there’s no way it should be top 10 let alone 5

Phoebe ended Fleabag after its second season. It was a fun ass watch, even with the main lead being written as inherently despicable lol. Things lighten up for a bit during the second season but it’s a dark series overall and its humor may not hit for some I’ll say. Show was pretty emotionally honest in its themes.

Yooo some shyt that cracked me up
Tony was in one of his sessions and he was complaining about how Meadow just gonna be a lawyer and pop out some babies and retire anyway
Doc:I got married, had children and went back to work
Tony:Yeah but you're divorced
:dead::russ:

And ya know what now that I'm done with it
Its funny how Chris was describing Tony to his sponsor and he was like Tony the type to say he's with ya on being sober but will pour you a drink with the other hand and how he despise his sobriety. And Chris was doing well being clean until they all complained bout him being sober, leading him to get back on that shyt, only for Tony to kill him for being high :gucci:
Muafukka you the one who got him back on that shyt :wtf:

Funny how Tony despised everyone in his life
