Doing a rewatch and am in the middle of Season 4.

This is went shyt really went downhill in my opinion, Tony killing Ralph, and pretty much the end of Carmine Sr's reign on top. Although that was not until Season 5, it really felt like he was pretty much part of the old school and what he stood for (money and no petty shyt) went down the drain. Killing Ralph really put things in motion
Good point

When Carmine passed that idea of authority in New York died too. Johnny and Phil were hot heads and egotistical. But that’s the point, carmines death was meant to signify that the good old days were a wrap

Vito was clamouring for Tony’s job big time

Yeah, Vito was a shady fukk. The minute he started earning more and losing weight, his ego grew to ridiculous proportions. I think on some level, that's why he didn't try to hide being gay from everyone. Even if Finn caught him at the construction site or Sal caught him at the club, he probably thought he had the connections (Phil) and the credibility (top earner) to get a pass.

Carmine was about to have his Underboss whacked to keep Ralph running the construction project. Then Tony kills him over a horse :mjlol:

Had the Carmine Sr hit gone down, I personally think Johnny would've turned the other way and let people in his family or the other NY families whack Tony.

No way the other families let a boss get whacked without any get back

Something like:

"Who could've done this!?"

- well you know Tony and Carmine were at odds over the whole HUD thing" 👀 🚬 🐍

Not at all under Carmine sr
I feel like they kinda were but they hid it well while Carmine Sr. was alive but once he was dead New York was free to be a crazy as they wanna be hence why the NY/NJ War popped off. Johnny Sack always appeared to be calm cool and collected until the Ralphie situation had him drop the act and show his real self to everyone. Butchie was another one...

Johnny was a good underboss (til S4) but a bad boss bc he didn't have anyone to check his hot headedness

We didn't see as much of the Lupertazzi until S4 and beyond so we don’t know As much of what's going on but under Carmine they def had their shyt together, they wasn't infighting amongst the factions, etc. maybe that's bc of Carmine or maybe it's bc they weren't a big part of the story yet. The family was named after Carmine (or someone like his father) so it makes sense he was a peacekeeper and more focused on earning.

I don't think Johnny even raised his voice til the fat joke situation. "He used to be a pragmatist". But he was always a meddler. He had to help iron out Junior vs Tony/Hesh in S1. Was meddling with Ralph va Tony in S3, etc. he liked to play both sides against the middle to try to create more advantageous earning situations for himself/NY

Tony made a lot of bad business decisions, but he was a genius for distancing himself from killing Carmine. Johnny never forgot about it and I think that was the first sign of their friendship going downhill.

It did give us some great Johnny quotes:

"Tomorrow, I go into work. Creeps on....this petty....pace. And I take orders from him again? Or that DISGUSTING, COCKSUCKING IDIOT SON OF HIS?!"

"HEALTHY FOR WHO?! WHY THE fukk WOULD I EVER TRUST SOMEONE WHO WOULD LEAVE ME HOLDING MY COCK LIKE THIS?!"

Yea...Johnny Sack really started going off the rails in S4...from finding out about the fat joke til the end he wasn't really himself anymore.

Tony got him back by getting Johnny's house for the low so Janis could move in :wow:
