so backstory on that. the laugh by Gandolfini was legit. Dude walked into the room wearing a strap on and Gandolfini lost it.they kept the take.
Steve Shirripa is dope, it's ironic that he plays the softest mobster in the gang but, outside of maybe Tony Sirico, he's the hardest and most connected of the actors (whereas most of the others are genuine thespians).

Classic.
A bit more trivia behind some iconic scenes:

- When Gloria throws beef (or whatever it was) to the back of Tony's head, it's actually Steve Buscemi throwing it.
- When Tony and Bobby got into their fight in S6B, Bobba accidentally knocked out one or a few of Jim's teeth.
- Jim accidentally really threw AJ (Robert Iler) into a wall in one of their scenes, the actor didn't mind but Jim felt so bad he kept apologizing and treating him to shyt.
- AJ's descent into disillusionment in S6A/B was partly based on the actor's struggles in real life. Chase wasn't sure whether he should go that route but Robert encouraged him to do so.
- On the flipside, Tony's descent starting S6 wasn't based on anything personal for Jim...but Jim had the idea that they were absolutely taking shyt from his personal life and giving it to Tony, apparently he called Chase and the writers 'vampires' when he first saw the outlines for S6.
- The Mikey Palmici actor tried, to the day of his death, to change Chase's mind and have Mikey survive into the next seasons. Chase brought him back for a few of the dream sequences because he felt bad, not because Mikey meant a lot to Tony.
- Joey Pants (Ralph) has a beef to this day with Chase, because of the promotional poster for S6 featuring all of the corpses (incl Ralphies) in the dirt. Apparently his kids or his family saw it before he had a chance to warn them about it because he didn't know and he took it personal.
- Vito being gay was an idea of the actor, who wanted a bigger role but Chase didn't really see where Vito would fit in (no pun intended). When he thought of a gay actor he decided on Vito because of the actor's insistence.
- Tony Sirico got pissed off when he first saw Little Paulie on set, because Paulie's visuals are based on how Tony behaved in real life and he didn't like that there was a copycat around.
- Apparently Tony Sirico also had the habit of telling newcomers to the set that they would all be killed off, and he wouldn't. Steve Shirripa was convinced he would get killed for S2/S3 because Tony kept telling him he would.

There's way more, I highly encourage y'all to watch the TALKING SOPRANOS podcast on Youtube and read the offical books that came out - the Podcast isn't always great, especially when they just talk about the story, but it excells when they go into behind the scenes shyt and they have most of the cast and crew (including David Chase) on there.

:ohhh: He was... and Tony knows it.

:wow:
Tony: "...didn't ya take him under your wing? School him the best you could" :sas1: *hands ralph back his gun*

That coded conversation where Tony greenlights Jackie is one of the best scenes...true mafiosi manipulative, double-speak...ordering a hit while not ordering a hit, absolving oneself

It was Tony way to feel. Like a good guy.

He always rationalize evil shyt.

Like ole boy with the horse and Tracie.

Chris with the dog...then later the carseat.

Always on some " but look what they did to kids or animals" or some shyt.

Sociopaths only care about animals and children, with Tracy being Meadow's age + Pie-O-My, that was it for Ralphie...

Hesh better have gave Howlin Wolf's estate their fair cut  :mjpls:

I think so because Hesh was a "Nice man" I think she said"....

Tony finally stuck his dikk in the wrong woman. This broad is insane. :francis:

I dont know what's going to happen next but thats not how I took it. I took it as Tony still using lessons he's learning from reading The Art of War. (He's been employing lessons from Sun Tsu all season.) I noticed that on this episode and the last, he's kicked major decisions back to his captains. In the previous episode, he kicked the decision about the Russian to Paulie. And in this episode he's kicking the decision about Jackie Jr to Ralphie.

I was thinking that it's a mix of testing his captains to find out if they're truly thorough or just bumbling idiots and also testing their character. And so far they are letting him down.

I also thought with the Ralphie situation, that was his way of letting him know "I know that you've been influencing Jackie Jr on purpose :aicmon:"

Now he's gonna wait and see what decision Ralphie is gonna make

But with that being said, you've seen the entire series. I haven't:hubie:

As far as green lighting Jackie, I think Tony did that cause he has to given the circumstances. But he's giving all power to Ralphie on the issue while letting him know that he knows who's really responsible.

It says a lot that Tony and Ralph kind of become a bit closer again after this, Tony feels like Ralph got his punishment.

The reverse happens in S4, Ralph loses something and takes it out on Tony the best way he knows how (and thinks he can get away with) - to me that says that Ralph hadn't forgotten how Tony played him here (on top of all the other shyt between them).

A missed opportunity for Saints was to show Tony being cool with Ralphie as well, rather than just Jackie, Carmella and Artie. Syl and Puss were always portrayed a bit older (although I think Saints kind of stretched it by how much older they were supposed to be), but Ralphie (as far as I know) was Tony's actual peer and went way back with him.

Also was hoping for a young Richie Aprile in Saints. I like the movie, but damn they left out a lot of cool lore.

Many Saints was a full on miss on almost everything. I could’ve gone without it, probably won’t ever watch it again.

It’s like chase purposely left out all the stuff they should’ve included just bc he’s known to be a dikk and he’s salty that he’s other projects have all been less than stellar. I think he resents the The Sopranos to an extent.

I think the only way he could get that movie made was to sprinkle in sopranos stuff and play it up as a sequel, when it didn’t seem to have anything to do with the series other than the characters having soprano names.

He could’ve made a classic by giving the fans what they want

Apparently an actual Mafia member said that to either James Gandolfini or David chase I can't remember.

Also I didn't know Howlin Wolf created the original "Woke up this Mornin".

In the version with the spoken word intro, they credit Howlin Wolf and other blues legends
