They were all very emotionally damaged, small people. It's amazing how much crazy shyt happens in all six seasons due to a passing insult or perceived slight. The show focuses on Tony's psychological therapy while showing that nearly every other dude in the show needed it too.

the funniest part of the whole show is how tony had to keep his therapy a secret from people who needed it as badly as, or worse than (especially in his mom's case), he did.
after AJ tried to off himself and tony's capos came clean about their kids fukkin up..that was the closest we ever came to it.
sometimes i go back and watch the show as if it were a comedy with dark moments, instead of a dark show with comedic moments
