Mitch made it so that they just don't compete for a chip. Damn give the man some credit.
I already give him credit for the Ariza and Gasol trade, but I'm not going to say he is the best GM in the league. He is not even close to it in my opinion. This is the same guy that gave Luke Walton a 7 year deal and traded for 4 draft picks for a 40 year old Steve Nash with a bad back. Mitch has been living off what Jerry West built for far too long. Lets see how good he is now without a top 2 player in his prime and a CBA that allowed big market teams to spend whatever. Cause right now its not looking good.

Fair enough...Mitch really does have to prove himself all over again.

The Lakers were on a short list of teams that Gasol, CP3 and Dwight were willing to be traded to. If I remember correctly Paul only wanted to be traded to the Knicks, Lakers or Clippers. Location is a huge advantage Mitch has over other GMs and he had an owner that was always willing to go over the cap. That should not be overlooked. Chris Paul was never a Laker. So Mitch shouldn't even get credit for a trade that wasn't even completed.

Ariza trade in 07 was a good move, but these other GMs consistently made great moves by drafting well, signing good FAs and making good trades.

I would also put Masai Ujiri and Daryl Morey over Mitch.

Not just the cap, but the luxury tax. The Lakers were perennially above the tax the last 5 or 6 years and the new CBA shifts things more towards the draft and scouting talent in the D-League and overseas rather than free agency. Plus, Mitch can't overpay guys like Luke Walton in this new era because you are penalized for it.

Lakers biggest issue is the lack of draft picks the last 6 years. They had a deep roster until 2011 but since then, the lack of picks really show in the post-lockout world of the NBA.

Brehs, the NBA lottery is beyond rigged. Last great franchise (Bulls) to be in the lottery that had a franchise player (Rose) got the 1st pick. And they had the 9th worst record that year. :smugfavre:

We're gonna be :eat: with a top 2 pick. Mitch and Ainge gonna go rock-paper-scissors for the 1st pick. :manny:
Exactly. Half the board heads for the cliffs when they win a game, not realizing it's a "lottery" and there have been many convenient story lines that played out with who got the #1 pick in the last 11 years.
