UPDATE on Jan 29 at 11:05 am EST by Adam Fromal
It appears that the flak has caught up to Magic Johnson.
After he was almost universally lambasted for failing to include Kobe Bryant in his first list of "great ones," the Los Angeles Lakers legend has sent out a new list via Twitter:

The Mamba is present.

But what? No Michael Jordan?

Only kidding this time, as Magic is just covering his bases by sending out a whole new list of players. Nothing to complain about here.

Is Magic Johnson trolling the Los Angeles Lakers?

It sure seems like it after the best point guard in the history of the NBA took to Twitter and listed some of the "great ones" who have laced up their sneakers in the Association:

Does it feel like anyone is missing? Maybe a certain someone with the initials K.B.B. who goes by a nickname that invokes images of slithering reptiles?

To be fair, all of the current inclusions are reasonable selections.

M.J. is the consensus greatest of all time, Bird and Magic enjoyed an historic rivalry, Kareem was a teammate of Magic's for an entire decade and the two remaining names are the clear-cut best players in the current NBA.

But couldn't he have thrown in Kobe's name? After all, he had another 31 characters to work with, and it only takes a few to include the name.

Now, he could've mentioned a whole bunch of names with those extra characters. Bill Russell, Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Isiah Thomas and a slew of others immediately come to mind. But Magic was naming greats whom he had connections to, and he definitely has one with Kobe.

You know, the whole Lakers thing counts as a connection, even if it hasn't seemed to matter too much.

Daniel Buerge: I've heard rumors of a Kobe & Magic rift in the past. How the two aren’t as friendly as it might seem. Magic’s tweet might illustrate that
Daniel Buerge: I also heard that Kobe’s main driving force for six rings has more to do with passing Magic than tying Mike. But, alas, just speculation.

This isn't the first time that Magic has enjoyed some Kobe-related controversy during the 2013-14 season.

Remember when he told Mike James of the Los Angeles Times that the L.A. 2-guard should spend the rest of the season on the sidelines?

It prompted B/R's Kevin Ding to write, "His uneducated, shallow, fleeting assessments indicate he's a bandwagon guy who mainly wants to make clear, in a trap a lot of older people tend to fall into, that the past was better."

Ding continued to question whether Magic actually cared about the Lakers, and this simple tweet is only going to lead to more inquiries along similar lines.
It's only a handful of characters, but the exclusion of Kobe—whether intentional or not—is still interesting. Perhaps we're reading too much into the thoughts of the retired point guard. Perhaps there wasn't much thought put into the message at all.

But, at the very least, shouldn't Magic have just mentioned the Black Mamba and saved himself the trouble?

:ohhh: :merchant: :lupe:

It's no surprise the Lakers are 16-30.

"Not with the injuries they've had. You can't overcome what they've had to deal with," said Pacers Coach Frank Vogel. "You've got two guys like [Steve] Nash and Kobe [Bryant], who are some of the best in the league, and you lose them for as long as they've been out -- as well as the other guys they've had out -- it's impossible to do any better than they've done."
"I think Coach Mike [D'Antoni] is going a great job, just keeping them playing hard and doing the best they can," said Vogel.
:bryan: Vogel and the rest of the coaches :troll: the fukk out of Pringles and have Lakers FO saying, see "I told you he is doing a great job and is the right man for the job". :snoop: I can't believe their are a bunch of Laker fans that are actually supporting Pringles and think that he is not to blame for anything at all as to what has happened this season. :why: :dead:

It's a shame that that fat pig is the one with the cure and not someone more important.

Executives from other teams tell Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders that they believe the Bobcats will be buyers at the trade deadline, as Kennedy notes amid a chat with readers. Charlotte is clinging to a one-game lead for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Bobcats are 28th in the league in points per game, and despite a regression defensively in the past month, Charlotte’s most pressing needs appear to come on offense. The ‘Cats are also without backup small forward Jeff Taylor for the season because of injury, so they may look to add depth at that position. The Bobcats are over the cap but more than $10MM away from tax territory, so they appear to have the flexibility to add salary.
Ben Gordon‘s $13.2MM expiring contract could appeal to other teams looking to clear cap space, so president of basketball operations Rod Higgins and GM Rich Cho could dangle him in talks if they’re willing to take on long-term salary in exchange. Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors looked at a few plausible scenarios involving Gordon earlier this month.

Charlotte’s 2014 first-round pick is ticketed for the Bulls if it falls outside the top 10, but the Bobcats could receive two other first-rounders this June, including a potential lottery pick from the Pistons. The ‘Cats could use one of those draft choices as trade bait, too.

It’s no surprise that front office types around the league have come away with this impression of the Bobcats’ plans, given Charlotte’s investment in Al Jefferson this past offseason and the team’s struggles in recent years. A playoff berth would help generate interest in the club as it prepares to rebrand itself with the Hornets nickname next season. While the allure of keeping their own pick could be a reason for the Bobcats to abandon their playoff push, the team wasn’t thinking that way when it signed Jefferson, and it seems unlikely the ‘Cats will reverse course now, as Kennedy explains.
:banderas: This might be the only realistic and last destination to trade Pau too.
