Not saying this is how it happened, but it's like this:

staffers:

A: Is there an official line saying we HAVE TO inform the president?

B: No

A: what happens if we don't?

B: Probably some bad press and some senators talking crazy

A: what if we tell them in advance?

B: That a$$hole at the White House, the chief of staff, will leak it to the press that Austin has been hospitalized for a possibly terminal illness, because he's been pushing to get rid of Austin, since they disagreed on some Iran policy decision.

You dont fire your first african american secretary of defense in history unless you truly dont care about re election
Especially when you spent 130 days on vacation last year. I think its ok to let a breh (no pun intended) have 3 sick days.

You’re wrong. Sorry you wrote that bullshyt for nothing.

just an interesting convo. Not trying to prove or condescend to anyone.

If you read enough memoirs and political books, no matter what side, or what office, there are all these feuds, and infighting, and revolts, and "knifes out" in all these branches of government, internal power struggles. They all leak to the press. They all undermine their rivals and enemies.

:dead:

Why is he wrong?
The Secretary of Defense was in the hospital and possibly ICU. It doesn’t matter if someone can do his job, it matters the president knows who’s doing his job.

Are we really about to play this game?:gucci:

Could you imagine if something broke out with our troops and the President called the Secretary of Defense and found out he was in the hospital and Larry was calling the shots?:dahell:

That's true, but Politico reported on Lloyd Austin and said one of the reasons he's been so appreciated by Brandon is because he doesn't operate and wheel and deal like a politician and he doesn't engage in internal power struggles and feuds and infighting.

It's not just that him and his circle didn't tell the President. The National Security Advisor, the Deputy Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of State and Congressional Leaders didn't know either.

This is Lloyd Austin and his team's fault. They didn't tell anyone. In the Executive Branch, the most important people in the President's foreign policy agenda are the Sec. of Defense, Sec. of State and National Security Advisor.

What if something urgent happened and the President or one of the other two people mentioned needed to call the Sec of Defense to discuss ASAP? So he doesn't pick up, you call the Deputy who don't know where he's at, or someone at the Pentagon and either they lie to you about Lloyd's whereabouts, or they suddenly tell you "Oh, Lloyd in the hospital". And what if that person don't have the intelligence briefing/background/ knowledge of the situation that Lloyd may have had so they not fully up to speed on the issue? The complexity of this could run deep.

The President needs to know what's going on with cabinet members for communication and governing purposes so that they can make any adjustments as needed.

Anyone working a regular job would try to make sure their boss knew they were in the hospital. And hopefully they would be surrounded by responsible people who would be able to call the job for that person if the person was unable to tell the boss directly.

He's a career military guy, sure. But, there's no getting out of that in DC. It's something you have to deal with. Even if he doesn't want to play, the other guys are. So they have to make decisions. This wasn't an oversight. This wasn't like he thought no one would notice or care, it was a calculated risk.

That explains it

They wanted to take control of the narrative after he was better, because it could have gone a different way. If the operation had not be successful, he would have been stepping down.

If they revealed a cancer diagnosis, and it leaked, which is would have, his enemies in and out of the party would have been running with that.

AUSTIN HAS CANCER NEEDS TO STEP DOWN

now the narrative is, there was an issue, it's corrected, we are moving forward, we will take our slap on the wrist.
