I think that’s basically why the offensive on Kiev slowed down a bit.
The Russian miscalculation when they embarked on this mission was that they thought Kharkiv would fall without a fight since it’s in the east and run over Kiev after breaking through Chernobyl.
But they miscalculated and Kharkiv has put up the strongest resistance thus far. Kiev must’ve moved all the Russian speaking Ukrainian servicemen out of that region - to the west.
