thats due to recent sanctions on Venezuela, for the majority of the past 20 years almost all of our oil came from Mexico and Venezuela. Now that we are going to sanction Russia, we will more than likely go back this route.

U.S. petroleum imports from Venezuela 2019 | Statista

Venezuela Oil Reserves, Production and Consumption Statistics - Worldometer

"Venezuela holds 299,953,000,000 barrels of proven oil reserves as of 2016, ranking 1st in the world and accounting for about 18.2% of the world's total oil reserves of 1,650,585,140,000 barrels."

Your still talking a year into the war

Russia literally in ukraines capital in 3 days
Russians getting their ass kicked and immediately attempting the “what about the Iraq war” card wasn’t on my prediction sheet.

Look at the casualties. This is a sloppy, poorly managed assault by a military that was always considered questionable and now has been confirmed as questionable. They’re going to take Kiev eventually but don’t have the military power or financial strength to hold the country. This is a quagmire in the making.

The US is going to be shipping weapons into Ukraine via Poland. It’s gonna be ugly for Putin going forward.

My man, US was importing over 1 million BPD, double that current Russian figure, in just 2017-2018. Trump put sanctions on Venezuela, and hooked Russia up to replace them. This is all recent. Biden could lift sanctions against Venezuela tomorrow and cut Russia off completely and we could go back to Venezuela being our main oil importer. Historically Russia accounted for less than 1% of US oil before Trump put sanctions on Venezuela.

But yes, I guess you are right, if you count the past 2 years over the past 40 or so years(since 1975), Russia imports more oil to America than Venezuela

This interview was recorded on Tuesday 15th February before Russia invaded Ukraine. Professor John J. Mearsheimer is the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago, where he has taught since 1982. He graduated from West Point in 1970 and then served five years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He has published six immensely influential books on international relations theory. In 2020, he won the James Madison Award, which is given once every three years by the American Political Science Association to “an American political scientist who has made a distinguished scholarly contribution to political science.”

Yeah..gotta say even though nato isn’t involved I wouldn’t doubt they’re involved. Probably have top military analyst feeding them strategy and intel.
US intel called every Russian move up until the first shots were fired. I’m sure the US is continuing to feed intel to Ukraine and making this hell for Putin.

Lot of people ended up looking stupid claiming Russia wouldn’t attack. We had satellite images of Russian blood banks being positioned on the border. The type of movement on display made it clear an invasion was imminent and here we are.

Is there really no way to shoot down a missile while it's in mid-flight? Khrushchev claimed that his anti-missile system could hit a fly in outer space, and that was back in the '60s. And what about Israel nowadays with the Iron Dome anti-missile system. They shoot down almost all the missiles that Hamas lob at them

Russia threatens 'military and political consequences' if Finland, Sweden try joining NATO

Russia threatened "military and political consequences" against Finland and Sweden on Friday if they attempted to join NATO.

Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned against other countries attempting to join NATO after Russia started a war with Ukraine Thursday.

"Finland and Sweden should not base their security on damaging the security of other countries and their accession to NATO can have detrimental consequences and face some military and political consequences," Zakharova said in a viral clip of a press conference.

The ministry later posted the same threat on its Twitter. Finland and Sweden have given significant military and humanitarian support to Ukraine since Russia invaded.

One pretext Russia has given for attacking Ukraine is that NATO would not give any assurance that Ukraine would not be allowed to join the intergovernmental military alliance.

Ukraine has been adamant about joining but is now willing to discuss a different status with NATO after hundreds were killed in the first day of fighting the Russians.

Russia and Ukraine are both sending delegations to Belarus to discuss Ukraine potentially adopting a nonaligned status with NATO.

The talks come as Russia is closing in on Kyiv, Ukraine's capital city. However, U.S. intelligence says Ukrainians are putting up a better resistance to Russian forces than expected.

Ukraine has been arming its citizens and telling them to create firebombs to resist Russia.

:francis:

This is a dilemma.
Yeah I've prayed for the day these cacs wipe each other out, but we'd have to deal with China :hhh:

They thought they was gonna roll into Kyiv and be home by Thursday afternoon. The planning and execution has been ass so far and its only going to get worse because now other countries that thought they were going to steamroll Ukraine are now starting to send supplies and armaments.
