The other thing is...there are nuclear weapons that send up a single pod in the atmosphere, then open up with multiple projectiles to overwhelm any defense systems. There are also cruise missiles that can be launched under radar via submarines.

Long story short, there is no way to stop a nuclear attack from a country like Russia. That's actually a key part of the stability...no one being immune to getting hit.

They don't shoot a missile at another missile. They use satellite guided lasers to initiate the detonation sequence. Sending a pod into the atmosphere is easier for the satellite to pick up plus it isn't a safe option bc even if it reaches its destination successfully the radiation is spread thru a wider area. Any missiles launched will be picked up long before it's in range.

A submarine would be even easier to find before it even launches. Not only is the US on high alert right now but every country in between is too. There's no way Russia can creep anywhere right now. The entire world is watching right now. It's the entire reason Russia is pump faking showing nukes. It's called posturing

I don't believe this to be true but I do seriously hope there is a sane middleman somewhere in their chain of command who could refuse to launch nukes if Putin ordered it .
